The Thief on the cross
The Thief on the Cross
Only the gospel of Luke says this. Mark and John say nothing. Matthew gives a completely different account as to what the two thieves said or did. If you go down to John 3:13 this contradicts what Luke said. Now are we to believe the words of Jesus or the words of Luke? If Luke 23:43 is correct, first, why is it in only one of the gospels if this is so important and second then it makes Jesus a liar based on John 3:13. If the words of Jesus in John 3:13 are true, then Luke’s account is wrong.
| !!!! Luke 23:43-Jesus talking to thief on the cross.
And he said unto him, verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
This is not mentioned in Mark, John, or Matthew
Matthew 27-38:44
| !!!! 38
| Then are there crucified with him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left. |
| !!!! 39
| And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, |
| !!!! 40
| and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. |
| !!!! 41
| In like manner also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, |
| !!!! 42
| He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him. |
| !!!! 43
| He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God. |
| !!!! 44
| And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach. |
John 3:11-15 Jesus talking to Nicodemus
| !!!! 11
| Truly, I say to you, We say that of which we have knowledge; we give witness of what we have seen; and you do not take our witness to be true. |
| !!!! 12
| If you have no belief when my words are about the things of earth, how will you have belief if my words are about the things of heaven? |
| !!!! 13
| And no one has ever gone up to heaven but he who came down from heaven, the Son of man. The above are Jesus’s words and if so then that one verse says no one has gone to Heaven except “the Son of man”. Not Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Noah, Moses, or even David. The words of Jesus makes this true. |
| !!!! 14
| As the snake was lifted up by Moses in the waste land, even so it is necessary for the Son of man to be lifted up: |
| !!!! 15
| So that whoever has faith may have in him eternal life. Stephen-taken to Heaven-Where does this come from? Look at verse 60, it says’ he fell asleep (died) nothing more.Acts 7: 58-60 |
| !!!! 58
| and they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. |
| !!!! 59
| And they stoned Stephen, calling upon the Lord, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. |
| !!!! 60
| And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Luke 16: 19-26-The Rich Man and Lazarus| !!!! 19
| Now there was a certain man of great wealth, who was dressed in fair clothing of purple and delicate linen, and was shining and glad every day. Being rich is not a sin |
| !!!! 20
| And a certain poor man, named Lazarus, was stretched out at his door, full of wounds, Being poor is not a sin |
| !!!! 21
| Desiring the broken bits of food which came from the table of the man of wealth; and even the dogs came and put their tongues on his wounds. Desiring food is not a sin |
| !!!! 22
| And in time the poor man came to his end, and angels took him to Abraham's breast. And the man of wealth came to his end, and was put in the earth. How did Abraham get to Heaven? According to John 3:13 he didn’t. Even if true, what did Lazarus do to go to Abraham’s breast? |
| !!!! 23
| And in hell, being in great pain, lifting up his eyes he saw Abraham, far away, and Lazarus on his breast. Verse 22 says the rich man was put in the earth. How was he able to lift up his eyes without a body? |
| !!!! 24
| And he gave a cry and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may put the end of his finger in water and put it on my tongue, for I am cruelly burning in this flame. What good would that have done? One drop of water wouldn’t quench his thirst. |
| !!!! 25
| But Abraham said, Keep in mind, my son, that when you were living, you had your good things, while Lazarus had evil things: but now, he is comforted and you are in pain. Even if Abraham was in Heaven, why was he talking to the rich man instead of God? |
| !!!!
26
| And in addition, there is a deep division fixed between us and you, so that those who might go from here to you are not able to do so, and no one may come from you to us.Based on this parable, is it to be taken literally or figuratively? What did the rich man do to deserve to go to Hades and what did Lazarus do to go to Heaven. I don’t think this can be taken literally. Is not giving Lazarus food a crime worthy of being put in Hades to suffer for eternity? |
