                                        WHO DO YOU THINK

(An adaptation from the song Who Do You Think by The New Coon Creek Girls and PTM Magazine)

Over two thousand years ago people were talking and rumors were running

Wild.  There was a woman who was not married but she was going to have

A child. Her name was Mary and she was a virgin from down in Nazareth.

She was going to marry a man named Joseph but the baby’s father was

Someone else.  The baby’s father was the Holy Ghost. Mary was young but she

was old enough to know that talk about an unmarried teenager giving birth would

not go away. It was a  scandal that compromised religious values and morality.

Before long they were saying she had the baby in a barn in Bethlehem and a star

Moved ‘round in Heaven until it stopped right over Him. Then some shepherds

Said an angel came and told them about the birth. They always knew men

Went to Heaven but this time God had come to earth. The barn the baby

Was born in would have been dirty, smelly and un-sanitary at best but despite

All of the hardships Mary and Joseph faced, Jesus was born so we could leave

the spiritually polluted barnyards of our lives to be given spotless, unpolluted

and unsullied eternal rooms in God’s house. He came even though he knew he

would receive a rude reception all of his life and culminating with a torturous

death on the cross. He accepted the ridicule that the label of illegitimacy would

bring.  He accepted the fact that his name would become a profane word.  He

came so that we could be given a new birth , a new name, a new life and that we

would have the hope of an eternal future in God’s kingdom of Heaven.  He came

so we could be reborn. Now who do you think could believe such a thing, believe

that this story is true?  Who do you think do you think could believe such a thing

well here’s hoping to Heaven you do.

When you receive a Christmas card this year, stop and think back to that time and

What that card really means. It’s not the pretty tree or lights or the Norman

Rockwell painting of a perfect Christmas.  It is not about holly or mistletoe or

Parties. It is not about singing carols or sleigh bells. It isn’t about snowmen

Reindeer or Santa Claus.  The card represents the story of a child that came to

Give us the best present anyone could have, eternal life in Heaven. From

Humble beginnings came someone so great that He gave His life to save all

Mankind. Isn’t that what Christmas is really all about and not the pretty cards

You receive?  So this year, as you celebrate Christmas and all that goes with it,

Take time and reflect about His birth and celebrate that also.
