BUT… the Word became flesh
Illustration: King George media frenzy
Fit for a king
But the King of England is pretty worthless…
He only feeds the public need for extravagance
There once was another king…
He came to this giant creation, as a tiny, helpless baby, lying in a manger
And He had one mission, to die on a cross because He loved what He had made
I think “Why would He do that? Isn’t it easier to destroy us all, make us robots, or never make us at all?”
Here’s the thing about “easier”. That’s a human motive.
We’re tired. We’re lazy. A lot of times we just want to do what’s easy…
But God doesn’t share our motivations. He doesn’t get tired. He’s not trying to get a job done…
Instead, God has a completely different motivation.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
His motive is love. What a powerful force that is!
I think God looks at the story and says, “Wow, what a beautiful story I’ve told!”
And I have to say that I agree.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
