Chap 13 _2 Cor

OOOOOOOOOOO 2 Corinthians 13:1–2(ESV) Final Warnings 13 This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 2 I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them— This is more than the last warning- this is more than scary. The man of God, the father of your church who has produced signs and wonders is coming to warn you. This should be enough especially with everything else mentioned in the letter
OOOOOOOOOOO 2 Corinthians 13:3–103 since you seek proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. 4 For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God. 5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. 7 But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. 10 For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down. He continues with the contradictory comparison , but he also puts in a reminder- don’t you forget that Christ abides in you. The standard that hat is within you a high standard of God. and you can attain this with his help. Test yourselves and look at us. We also have Christ and therefore we cannot do anything against the truth bur only for the truth. Jesus said that he was truth.
Paul has full authority to approve or condemn per the kingdom rules.
…………..Matt 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” the “kingdom of heaven” includes the church on earth as well as the heavenly realm. Binding and loosening is a rabbinical phrase for approving and disapproving or finding innocent vs finding guilty. The tense in the Greek is perfect particle passive. = an action that has already taken place. So what God has ordained in heaven can be emulated on earth. So 1st heaven leads with action/decision and then earth can so judge or share what has happened in the heavens. God is first - man receives and is second. Also whatever is neuter. Most say this relates to things and not individuals. This kind of lines up with God is the final judge not man. only god can condemn spiritually. Binding and loosening Satan is not ever condoned.
Jude 99 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” also we see in Romans Romans 16:19–20(ESV) 19 For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
And when Paul comes he does not want to be severe. He is a coach and he demands performance and excellence from his church. I want to build you up not tear you down.
OOOOOOOOOOO 2 Corinthians 13:11–1411 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you.
14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Paul gives the benediction. Now go in joy, peace, love. Encouraged that all the saints also greet you.
He closes with a trinitarian call -
1. the grace of Lord Jesus
2. Love from God
3. fellowship of the Holy SpiritOOOOOOOOOOO 2 Corinthians 13:1–2 (ESV) Final Warnings 13 This is the third time I am coming to you.
