Matthew 1:21–23 NASB95
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
What spoken?
The word spoken to Abraham
Genesis 22:18 NASB95
18 “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
to Moses
Numbers 24:17 NASB95
17 “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, A scepter shall rise from Israel, And shall crush through the forehead of Moab, And tear down all the sons of Sheth.
From
Jeremiah 23:5–6 NASB95
5 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land. 6 “In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, ‘The Lord our righteousness.’
Israel believed and hoped for one to come. to rescue them
Isaiah 7:14 NASB95
14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Immanuel, God with us.
to fullfil the scriptures
Call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
Question to you this morning, are you His people?
The word save is the greek word sozo
it is the short form of the word soteria which means Freedom form Jail or prison, Healing, and Deliverance from sin and enemies.
Call His name Jesus, for He will deliverance, set free you from sin.
This is Good news....
Many times us Christian walk around and say “ BrotherDerrick I am saved.”
Saved? Saved from What?
Now I want to talk about the four things he has saved us from.
We will acknowledge what we are saved from we can truly celebrate His coming as Good News
The first thingI call this the elementary form of salvation.
We are Saved out of Hell.
Psalm 68:18 NASB95
18 You have ascended on high, You have led captive Your captives; You have received gifts among men, Even among the rebellious also, that the Lord God may dwell there.
he led captivity captive
See this is all that many of us Christian know.
John 3:16–17 NASB95
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
This mean Pastor Derrick I am saved from hell.
Jesus came so that I would not have to go to hell.
(There is a difference from being saved from and out of something.)
That is where many of us Christian stop.
We come to Christ so we can escape hell.
But Christ came to do more.
John 10:10 NASB95
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
See the church teach that God want to save you in sin but in reality God want to save us from sin.
He came to sozo us. to deliever us from sin
Think about the way God tells them to pray.
Matthew 6:13 NASB95
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
Deliver us, or rescue us from evil.
Romans 6:1–4 NASB95
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Paul asks the question should we continue in sin.
And his answer in God Forbid and in the Greek that is an emphatic No No Never let it not be.
The second thing that we are saved out of is sin.
How do we not continue in our sin
Matthew 1:21 NASB95
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Romans 6:18 NASB95
18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
God does not want sin to have control over.
But be might have power over it.
To overcome it. Jus as he overcame the workd
1 John 5:4 NASB95
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
God coming for a spotless bride Arrayed in white.
God want us to be led by the spirit not by lust, and entice.
He wants us to be led by the spirit because those who are led by the spirit are Son of God.
Not drawn away by our own lust and entice James 1
Jesus in transforming us by the renewing of our mind that way this message is so important.
When I came to Jesus by faith my spirit was willing but I still have to overcome my flesh.
number 3
Acts 27:34 KJV 1900
34 Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
The word for health is the word Soteria.
The next thing that God has saved up out of is sickness.
3 John 2 NASB95
2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
Jesus came death on the cross was not just for our eternal security but for our entire walk with him.
Isaiah 53:4–5 NASB95
4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
Malachi 4:2 NASB95
2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.
This is Malachi ending the old testament prophecying about our Christ that will be healing in his wings
Why do you think that the woman with the issue of blood went for the hem of his garment? Because she knew if she touched him she would be healed. Jesus came to heal.
Matthew 9:18–22 NASB95
18 While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples. 20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.
“If I only touch His garment, I will get well.”
Whats the Greek word from ‘well” or “healed”
sozo!
“Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.
The last thing is we are saved out of is our enemies.
Luke 1:71 NASB95
71 Salvation from our enemies, And from the hand of all who hate us;
Psalm 27:1–3 NASB95
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? 2 When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.
God want to bring us into a place of peace. His kingdom come.
Love, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
this is the good new of glad tithings
