Driving With Our Eyes Closed - 2 Cor 4
Wednesday, June 27, 2018
10:26 AM
4 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Scientists tell us you blink 25 times every minute. Each blink takes about one fifth of a second. To give us a little perspective, if you take a ten-hour automobile trip averaging 40 miles per hour, you will drive 33 of those miles with your eyes closed.
Blinking is a very natural and involuntary act our body performs to help protect the eyes.
While we really have no control over blinking - we can however and should be however in charge of being alert, awake, and aware.
This passage indicates that people have turned their mental eyes over to the world. Letting the world blind them.
In some ways it's like Samson. Remember him, the Judge in the Old Testament. He was a man of power, of strength. A great warrior. A ferocious foe of the Philistines. But when he let his guard down, when he went to sleep in the lap of the enemy. What was one of the first things they did? They poked his eyes out. He no longer had control of what he saw.
There is a danger of letting the things of this world, put us to sleep mentally.
The god of this world would like to blind people to their need.
Need of salvation - We need a Savior. There is nothing we can do to get to heaven - other than go through Jesus Christ. If you are depending on anything else it will stop you at the pearly gates. You are blinded.
Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Blinded to the need of holiness - the god of this world likes to promote pleasure, carelessness, an "everything is ok" attitude. BEWARE THAT SPIRIT - it will blind you to what is reality.
The god of this world would like to blind the church to their purpose.
The Purpose of Christians - is not just to learn a lot about the Bible and Christianity. While I believe we should all be active students of the word. The real purpose of being a Christian is to win others to Christ. To make disciples of all people. The Purpose of Christians - is not to get all that we can get - but to bring Glory to God with our lives, our possessions, with our talents, with all that we are.
The god of this world would like to blind the church into thinking that its in vain
I want to remind you that it is not in vain1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.Be not weary in well doing - for you shall reap if you faint notCast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. Hebrews 10:35
Don't be fooled by the things of this world - Let the light of Christ shine upon you.
