Heart

Matthew 6:21 ESV
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Heart and thoughts of our hearts or desires portray our true nature before God or even in front of people.
God know our true nature, if unchecked or assisted by the holy spirit our nature is evil.
Genesis 6:5–6 ESV
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
We might do a lot of things assuming they are right in our sight. We toil to build great works, accumulate riches and enjoy all pleasures of the world that provide momentary satisfaction.
Ecclesiastes 2:10–11 ESV
And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.
As a Christian What should be our desire
Desire God
Psalm 73:25 ESV
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
Desire for right living
Hebrews 13:18 ESV
Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.
Desire for Wisdom
James 1:5 ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
1 Chronicles 29:17–18 ESV
I know, my God, that you test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you. O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.
