One of the most difficult things to have in this world is Patience

The increasing of fast food chains

An a new stay at home lifestyle where you can get most of your essentials delivered to you.

No wonder why is hard for us to be patient about anything. From making money all the way to changing bad habits. We want it Now and if we don’t have it then we become aggressive and that’s where most of our problems begin.

So of course when Jesus commanded to stay Awake spiritually and wait for his return, I think that you will agree with me that most of us have failed.

When we don’t see the results of our faith after one day, week or even month of faithful obedience. our first instinct is to forget about it and go back to bed (go back to the cheap but fast pleasures of the world)

We have fell asleep

Before you feel miserable with God let’s look at the great disciple of Jesus... Peter

Matthew 26:36–41 NET

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became anguished and distressed. Then he said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.” Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “So, couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour? Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

It’ been awhile

almost 2000 years

I understand if you think following Jesus is Hard.

It is hard, specially when He is taking so long. After all Peter failed only after an hour.

But he learned his lesson

Peter’s secret

to become Awake Spiritually

2 Peter 3:8 NET

Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that a single day is like a thousand years with the Lord and a thousand years are like a single day.

Peter knew his Bible and that gave him understanding of who God is

God’s timing is not our timing

Stop getting frustrated when nothing seems to change even though you are child of God

So, were you not able to stay awake with me one hour?

if we follow what Peter is saying to the letter 1 hour is about 50 years or somebody's adult life

Jesus is still calling us to stay awake for the rest of our adult years. to be patient and wait for Him.

Now Jesus said

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak!

Which means that there is nothing in us to keep us awake… after all Peter knew Jesus in the flesh and he was not able to stay awake for an hour

We need to look at God

2 Peter 3:9 NET

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

We are gonna fail guys but if you truly want to become a Christian, a child of God, you are gonna keep falling deeper and deeper if you keep looking in yourself.

It’s the love of God and His patience that leads us to repentance

Romans 2:4 NET

Or do you have contempt for the wealth of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, and yet do not know that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?

Peter also knew that this world is not forever

2 Peter 3:10–11 LEB

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will disappear with a rushing noise, and the celestial bodies will be destroyed by being burned up, and the earth and the deeds done on it will be disclosed. Because all these things are being destroyed in this way, what sort of people must you be in holy behavior and godliness,

What kind of people do you want to be? The one that pursues cheap pleasures from this world that will disappear? Or the one that gets to know the kindness and love of God and in doing so being transformed to become like Him and receive the eternal inheritance?

2 Peter 3:13–15 NET

But, according to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness truly resides. Therefore, dear friends, since you are waiting for these things, strive to be found at peace, without spot or blemish, when you come into his presence.And regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as also our dear brother Paul wrote to you, according to the wisdom given to him,

To be awake Don’t stop looking at the Kindness and patience of God for you, even in your worst, if you are alive is because he is not done with you. Look at how patient He has been with you all this years and let His love make you the person that you are meant to be.

1 Timothy 2:4 NET

since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
