TEXT: John 1:3 (KJV)
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
We have an amazing all powerful all mighty God. He can create everything from nothing with just his word. He can heal, save, provide in miraculous ways. The question is asked in the Old Testament "Is there anything too hard for God? In the New Testament we find where Jesus answer this with, "With men things are impossible but with God all things are possible.
Now I believe in the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation. There is no part I don't believe, I may not understand it all, but I know it to be God's word, Inerrant, infallible, and inspired.
We sometimes sing the chorus:
God can do anything, anything anything God can do anything but fail.
While there is truth in that chorus, there is also technically some falsehoods hiding there -
The Bible shows me some things that God limits himself to - notice I said God limits himself - not that he is limited. There are some things God cannot and will not do. I want to talk about three of those things this morning.
God CANNOT Lie - Not only will God never tell an untruth - the Bible in Hebrews 6:18 tells us one thing that is "impossible" with God - that it is impossible for God to lie. God Will Never Break His Promises - God will do what he has said and promises. Definition of impossible a : incapable of being or of occurring God Can’t Lie - Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that He should lie or the son of man that He should change his mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and then not fulfill?”
It's an unfortunate fact that people lie. I remember being called in for jury duty several years ago on a Federal Case in St. Louis. One of the main pieces of evidence in this case was the testimony of the arresting officer. One of the first questions the Defense Attorney asked the jury pool was, "Do you think it is possible for a policeman to lie." While I wanted to support the police, and say no, I have to admit that yes without the grace of God, a police officer will and have been known to tell an untruth.
A lot of times truth has a price. Look at the guards at the tomb, they were willing to take some hush money and tell an untruth than to speak out and tell exactly what happened.
While it is possible for man to lie to speak an untruth, while Satan is known as the father of liars, it is IMPOSSIBLE - incapable of occurring - for God to lie!!! God Will Never Use Our Past To Determine Our FutureThe old Cathedral's Quartet used to sing a song: A loser without direction I drifted aimlessly On the back side of a place called nowhere Forgotten by humaninty. When they talked about potential They did not refer to me, 'Cause everyone could clearly see What I was, I'd always be.
Chorus: He saw not what I was, He saw what I could be, When He reached His hand to where I was He took a chance on me, All He had to hope for was a possibility Still He saw not what I was He saw what I could be.
THE APOSTLE PAUL AS AN EXAMPLE. Galatians 1:18-23
Gal 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
Gal 1:19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
Gal 1:20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
Gal 1:21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
Gal 1:22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
Gal 1:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
1. GOD NEVER HELD PAUL’S PAST AGAINST HIM
2. NO ONE ALIVE HATED AND PERSECUTED THE CHURCH MORE THAN PAUL
3. PAUL’S PAST SIN DID NOT EFFECT WHAT HE COULD BECOME FOR JESUS
B. Luke 7:11-18 The Dead Man at Nain / 36-39 GOD WILL NOT LET OUR PAST SINS KEEP US FROM TOUCHING THE LORD
Luke 7:13-15 (KJV)
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
Luke 7:37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
Luke 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
1. THANK GOD NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE DONE, WHERE YOU’VE BEEN, WHO YOU ARE YOU CAN REACH OUT AND TOUCH THE LORD
2. SOME OF YOU HERE TODAY NEED TO REACH OUT AND TOUCH HIM or let Him touch you!!!
God Will Never Limit Your Blessings Based on Your Achievements Luke 23:39-43
A. THE THIEF ON THE CROSS HAD NO TIME FOR ACHIEVEMENTS IN HIS LIFE BUT HE WAS BLESSED WITH ETERNAL LIFE
Luke 23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Luke 23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Luke 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
B. GOD NEVER LIMITS OUR BLESSINGS BASED UPON WHAT WE HAVE TO GIVE
Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Mark 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
Mark 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Mark 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
1. HIS BLESSING ARE NOT BASED UPON WHAT WE GIVE BUT WHY WE GIVE
