18 *I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Keys are fascinating things. They are used to lock and unlock things, they are used in symbol as signs of welcome such as when you give someone the keys to the city. Ceremonial keys are emblems of access and authority.
Tell the story of Wednesday night you went to get the Chee family for church, but couldn't find the keys. One of my boys had taken them to get something out of the van. We were on our way back to church, coming down Central downtown at a stoplight and the car alarm went off in the van. My Key fob is set up so that the panic button is actually in the ignition, the only way to press the button was to turn off the van .
Then I heard Gabby giggle in the back, and say "beep beep beep" we asked if they had found any keys and there Corey had left them in the back seat of the van.
Sargon Il was the haughty Assyrian ruler Who finished the conquest Of Samaria and ended the biblical kingdom Of Israel. Near Nineveh he built a magnificent palace, then filled it with every luxury, including the oldest mechanical lock archaeologists have Ever found. When someone inserted a monstrous wooden key, pegs inside the lock would line up evenly, allowing the bolt to move and the door to open.
Centuries later we are still using keys. Every day at 9:53 p.m. the Chief Yeoman Warder takes the "Queen's Keys" at the Tower of London and parades them across the cobblerstones and locks the huge oaken doors that secure the ancient fortress. As the Warder returns with the keys, a sentry barks out, "Halt! Who goes there?"
"The Keys," replies the Warder,
"Whose keys?" comes the challenge. "Queen Elizabeth's Keys!," he explains.
"Pass Queen Elizabeth's Keys!" the sentry orders.
"All's Well!"
Followed by his escort the Chief Yeoman Warder walks through an archway, pauses, then calls out, "God Preserve Queen Elizabeth!" The guards respond "Amen!" and "The Last Post" is sounded by a bugler.
Only once in 700 years has the Ceremony of the Keys been disrupted, and that was during WWI when bombs were raining down upon the tower.
Even then the guards scrambled quickly and moved rapidly through their maneuvers.
These keys symbolize great wealth, authority, and power.
But Jesus says, the keys I have unlock far more wealth, and authority and power. They are the keys of death and hell.
Jesus Having The Keys Shows Us His Power and AuthorityHe was under the influence of the Kingdom of Death for a while - but he overpowered it and death couldn't keep him down - it had to let go - And as it were Jesus grabbed the keys off of the hook of that dark place and jangled them in the face of Satan he could stand many years later and declare to John the RevelatorI AM HE THAT WAS DEAD - AND BEHOLD - I like that, it means look at this. I want you to see this - examine with your eyes. I AM ALIVE FOREVERMORE and further more he says, "I HAVE THE KEYS OF DEATH AND HELL."
Tonight at almost ten they will go through the "Ceremony of the Keys" unless some major events takes place. But the Queens Keys as powerful as they are - are but a mere trifle a little trinket a worthless piece painted garbage when compared to the keys hanging on the side of My King
WHO WAS DEAD BUT BEHOLD HE IS ALIVE FOREVERMORE AND HE HAS THE KEYS OF DEATH AND HELL!!!!
As the old writer put it -
GOD IS IN HIS HEAVENS AND ALL IS WELL!!!!
