Jeremiah 18:1-10 (KJV)
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
Jeremiah 18:1-10
I. The Potter is in control – This particular parable shows us that God is in control of the Nations and He’s going to do with them what he will .Albeit sensitive to their repentance.
II. The Potter is Quality Control
A. The potter must be pleased
1. As seemed good to the potter to make it verse 4c
2. Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
3. Isa 45:9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
B. The Pottery is in the hands of the potter
1. Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
III. The Potter chooses what the pottery will be -
A. It isn’t always pleasant to be placed on the potter’s wheel.
B. . Sometimes we don’t turn out the way we planned.III.
IV. Pottery can mar Verse 4 (perhaps a hole, a crack, etc.)
What does God Require?
Psalm 51:6 (KJV)
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Psalm 51:16-17 (KJV)
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
He doesn’t throw it away He remakes it
Empty and broken, I came back to Him
A vessel unworthy, so scarred from sin.
But He did not despair...He started over again
And I bless the day, He didn't throw the clay away.
Over and over, He molds me and makes me,
Into His likeness, He fashions the clay.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.
He is the Potter...I am the clay
And molded in His image, He wants me to stay.
Oh, but when I stumble...
When I fall...
When my vessel breaks,
He just picks up those pieces,
He does not throw the clay cway...
Over and over, He molds me and makes me,
Into His likeness, He fashions the clay.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.

B. He will be able to say “It is Good” When He is finished.
1. 3I went there and saw the potter making clay pots on his pottery wheel. 4And whenever the clay would not take the shape he wanted, he would change his mind and form it into some other shape.CEV
Paul said “We are His workmanship created in His likeness….”
As David Ring used to say – “I’m still in the oven but one day Jesus is going to take me out and say, “ Well done thou good and faithful servant enter into the joys of our Lord. “
