Wednesday, September 26, 2018

John 4:35-38 (KJV)
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
Will There Be Any Stars?
Alison Krauss, The Cox Family
I am thinking today of that beautiful land
I shall reach when the sun goeth down
When through wonderful grace by my Saviour I stand
Will there be any stars in my crown.
Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown
When at evening the sun goeth down
When I wake with the blest in those mansions of rest
Will there be any stars in my crown.
--- Instrumental ---
In the strength of the Lord let me labor and pray
Let me watch as a winner of souls
That bright stars may be mine in the glorious day
When his praise like the sea billow rolls.
Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown
When at evening the sun goeth down
When I wake with the blest in those mansions of rest
Will there be any stars in my crown.
--- Mandolin Instrumental ---
Oh, what joy it will be when his face I behold
Living gems at his feet to lay down
It would sweeten my bliss in the city of gold
Should there be any stars in my crown.
--- Banjo Instrumental ---
Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown
When at evening the sun goeth down
When I wake with the blest in those mansions of rest
Will there be any stars in my crown...

OT references are mainly agricultural with regulatory laws covering crop production and festivals of thanksgiving. God's blessing was reflected in the harvest. The NT refers more to the spiritual sowing and reaping that takes place in the kingdom of God.

You can't reap if you don't sow
the church ought to be in collective ministry today. We would love to focus the spotlight on reaping, but there is no reaping without sowing. Sowing is useless unless someone has watered and cultivated, sometimes for a long period of time. Whatever our tasks in the harvest, we must handle them in cooperation with other workers.
Holman New Testament Commentary - Holman New Testament Commentary – John.
Don't argue over which half you have to doWork diligently - sow, reap water whatever you are called or compelled to do. Know that both the sower and the reaper receive a great reward - they get to go together up to the Father Rejoicing Bringing in the Sheaves.
1 Corinthians 3:6-10 (KJV)
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
