“Serving a Winner by Living the Word”

Introduction:

We all have problems but some of us have what Dr. J. E. Adams calls “Complicating Problems”...

He says when a person has a problem (principal problem) on which he is focused it may not be possible to reach a biblical solution to it until their complicating problems are first cleared away.

Complicating problems usually arise from faulty attempts to solve a principal problem.

Communication breakdown is a complicating problem. In order to solve other problems, communicating problems must be solved first.

Attitude problems are also a complicating problem. If one attempts to resolve principal difficulties while retaining sour attitudes toward others or toward some task, he cannot properly do so. There must be an attitudinal change before progress is possible.

Lack of discipline is another complicating problem. To learn new, biblical patterns requires discipline. Without the structure and the regularity that accompany disciplined living, a person will find that he cannot put on a new, biblical way.

Purpose:

v To encourage someone who is dealing with a problem.

Scripture: Luke 1:8-17 (read vv8-13)

8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, 9 According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. 11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Title: Your Problem God’s Plan – Pt 2

Theme

God will execute His prophetic plan for every believer’s problem.

Background:

In this passage, Zacharias was a priest and Elisabeth was of the line of Aaron.

Both of them were righteous before God.

Both of them were walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

Both of them were good people but they had a problem—they had no child.

This couple had a problem but God had a plan and it was about to come to pass.

Teaching

Their Problem Was On God’s Program…

Luke 1:8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course.

When you have a problem, you may not be able to do what you used to do...

When you have a problem keep doing what you can do…

When you have a problem, leave what you can’t do for God to do…

When you have a problem don’t forsake the assembling of the saints…

When you have a problem stay connected to the church (serving, giving)…

When you have a problem continue to gather for a worship experience…

He was doing his duty and God showed up…

He was where he was supposed be when God sent an angel with a word…

He was executing his responsibilities but God was also His executing His...

[In addition…]

v Their Problem Was Heard In Prayer…

Ø Luke 1:13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard;

§ Heard - Sense: to be heeded (state) – to be or become heard with focused attention, and usually with a response of conformity…

Ø The day came when their prayer was heard and answered…

§ They had been praying to God about their principle problem.

§ They had been seeking the favor of the Lord.

§ They had been carrying their troubles to the altar.

Ø The day came when the burden of their hearts was rolled away.

§ God sent them the desire of their heart.

§ God filled the empty place in their life.

§ God said through the messenger that Elisabeth shall bear thee a son (v13).

Ø The day came with the answer to their principle problem, but the text reveals that they still had some complicating problems.

§ Luke 1:18 Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years." …

§ Their complicating problem was not trusting the Word of the Lord (How…?)…

§ Their complicating problem was thinking it was too late (old man/woman)…

§ God solved their principle problem but before they could not enjoy the blessing until they resolved their complicating problems…

§ God will solve your principle problem but you have to deal with your complicating problems before you can enjoy the blessings…

[Lastly, let us consider the fact that…]

v Their Problem Was Surpassed By God’s Plan.

Ø Luke 1:13 and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

§ John - Jehovah has been gracious...

Ø They had hoped and prayed to God for a baby.

§ One to whom they could show their love.

§ One in whom they could see themselves in.

§ One who could keep their memory alive.

Ø They wanted a baby but God exceeded their expectation—a son…name John...

§ He will be a joy and a delight to you (v. 14).

§ He will be great in the sight of the Lord (v 15).

§ He will never to take wine or other fermented drink (v. 15).

§ He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb (v. 15).

§ He will preach and multitudes will turn back to God (v16).

§ He will go before the Lord as the forerunner of Jesus Christ (v. 17).

§ He will come in the spirit and power of Elijah (v. 17).

§ He will prepare the people of God for the coming of the Christ (v.17)…

Ø They wanted a baby but they received more than they asked for…

§ God is able to give you more than you asked for…

§ God is able to exceed your expectations…

§ God is able to solve your problem beyond your prayers…

§ Ephesians 3:20 20Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

[As I close …]

Conclusion

v We all have problem but know that God has a plan.

Ø He is working out His plan regarding your problem...

Ø He may seem to be moving slowing but He is moving…

Ø He will execute His plan according to His schedule…

v We all have problems but you’ve got to clear up your complicating problems.

Ø Use godly Communication.

Ø Watch your Attitude.

Ø Maintain a disciplined lifestyle.

Ø Above all, pray with faith—because nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

v The day is coming when your prayers will be answered.

Ø On that day the favor of God will be upon you…

Ø On that day the longing of your heart will be satisfied…

Ø On that day the empty space in your life will be filled...

v God told me to tell you on this day that your answer is on the way...

Ø He has heard your prayer and He is going to execute His plan…

Ø He will execute His plan and it will be greater than your problem…

Ø He is going to show you favor and your singing will be louder than your sorrow...

§ If you receive it, give God a Praise that is bigger than your problem.

§ Do I have a witness? Say, “My praise is bigger because my God is bigger…”

§ Praise Him—Worship Him.

[As I consider Calvary, the birth of John was followed by the birth of another baby…]
