Psalm 46 SAY 2 X's

Things to say in between:

This is part of a group of Psalms called the "Songs of Zion" this includes 48, 76, 84, 87, 122, 137 these Songs of Zion are uniquely devoted to extolling this city of [God] the Great King (48:1-2). No other city or place, including the temple, receives this adulation This particular Psalm is what inspired Martin Luther to write his Magnum Opus Hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"

PSALM 46 PAUSE

Psalm 46 Reads -

Text: Psalm 46:10 - I want to draw your attention to verse 10 Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

I want us to notice the division of the Psalm -

It is composed of three stanzas each of which ends with the word "SELAH" First Stanza:1-3 Second Stanza:4-7 Third Stanza:8-11

The First Stanza 1-3 Begins with a strong affirmation of trust in God based on His faithfulness God is our refuge and strength Then it talks about our security when we are attacked: An ever present help in trouble. The psalmist makes the claim because of these two things: Therefore we will not fear. The Second Stanza 4-7 - Here we really begin to pick up the Zion Psalm There is a River - While Jerusalem had no river running through it, it had something better, more powerful, and life giving - God was living in His Holy House Notice how he ends this stanza verse 7 The Lord Almighty is with us The Third Stanza 8-11 Come behold the works of the Lord Then we get to our text: Psalm 46:10 Be still and Know that I am God. As with most Psalms this was a response one part sung or recited by one person or group and then that was responded to by another group or person. Verse 10 was read by the leader Which was immediately followed by verse 11 The Lord Almighty is with us: The God of Jacob is our Fortress. LETS TRY THIS SHALL WE: I will read verse 10 then you respond with verse 11. Afterward - that was really good.

Now lets try this one more time without the thought of replicating history. I want you to read this like you really believe it. Like you really know that "THE LORD ALMIGHTY IS WITH US" that "THE GOD OF JACOB IS OUR FORTRESS"

I want us to think a little while this morning on the phrase:

"KNOW THAT I AM GOD"

We have libraries full of theological works that give us technically written descriptions of what man thinks about God. But God has given us A BOOK - that is given to "REVEAL GOD to us"

It's not a revelation for information - but rather for transformation.

It's a revelation for a relationship.

This morning I want to ask you "DO YOU KNOW GOD?"

Oh I'm sure I could ask everyone of you a trivia question about God and you could answer - that is knowing about God.

But do you know Him? "DO YOU KNOW GOD?"

Look at the writing of this psalm -

While yes it is extoling the beauties and glories of Jerusalem - but what is it's glory?

It is because God is there.

God was at the heart of Israel.

"DO YOU KNOW GOD?" Is he at the heart of your life?

Is He living in the "Jerusalem" the "Zion" of your heart?

Paul the great Apostle lived his life with this driving thought recorded in Philippians 3:10: "That I may know HIM, and the power of His resurrection."

Jesus in His High Priestly Prayer in John 17 down in verse 3 expresses His main purpose for coming - to glorify the Father and give us Eternal Life then he tells us what that is:

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know THEE the ONLY TRUE GOD, and JESUS CHRIST, whom thou hast sent.

"DO YOU KNOW HIM?" DO YOU KNOW GOD?"

IF your answer to that question is "YES PRAISE GOD I KNOW HIM" wonderful praise the LORD!!!"

Rejoice in that - and take Peter's admonition in 2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever AMEN!!!"

But maybe your answer to the question, "DO YOU KNOW GOD?" Is less clear than that - Maybe you don't know if you know God or not.

Well that is a good place that means I've got you thinking -

I also have hope for you - "IF YOU DON'T KNOW YOU KNOW GOD - YOU DON"T HAVE TO LEAVE HERE THE SAME"

YOU CAN KNOW GOD

How do I know that I KNOW GOD?

If you are interested at all this morning you are being drawn by the FATHER - by this GOD the one that wants us to KNOW HIM

And He is right here this morning - NO you can't see Him but He is here and he says -

"COME UNTO ME" He says "Behold I stand at the door and knock if any man opens the door I will come in and sup with Him" That is an initiated relationship.

GOD WANTS TO KNOW YOU - DO YOU KNOW GOD?

It is not a hard process or complicated method - it's simple really. While everyone is different I want to make it as simple as I can -

Repent - express the "turning away" of people from their sinful ways, along with the corresponding "turning to" God.

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

3. Receive -

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

How bout it this morning? DO YOU KNOW HIM? DO YOU KNOW GOD?

You can know HIM

He says be still, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD….

He wants you to KNOW HIM

And to know

I am the strength to your weaknessI am the found to your lostness I am the help to your hurting

I am the change less one that changes you

He wants us to go from information to transformation

What does intimation mean?

DO YOU KNOW HIM?

I want us all to stand and I want to give you an opportunity to KNOW GOD!!!

EVERY HEAD BOWED EVERY EYE CLOSED.

Father,

I have done the best I could at delivering my soul this morning. I have tried my best to preach your word and your heart. That you long for us, you love us, you want a relationship with us.

Would you draw with your Holy Spirit this morning anyone here who may not KNOW YOU!!!

Has the God who is HERE spoken to your heart? Do you feel the Father drawing you?
