There are many who look as if they are fully and entirely worshiping God by the view from the outside. However, this view, no matter how real it seems, may be false in telling what extent someone is worshiping on the inside. True worshipers will be both true on the outside and true on the inside. God seeks children of truth.

Introduction

What is lifeless worship?

I want to pose a few questions to my listeners today in hopes of provoking internal thought on the subject. Do you know what lifeless worship is? How about life-filled worship? Do you know and fully understand the difference between the two?
Lifeless worship is the external showing of real worship, but on the inside there is no real respect, adoration, or praise for God. Anyone can be a lifeless worshiper if they so choose to be. In fact, the Pharisees, lawyers, and scribes were know for there lifeless worship. Jesus often referred to those who presented themselves as real God worshipers, but inside were dead and dusty, as hypocrites.
A look into the historical meaning of the greek word for hypocrite shows that the word was given to Greek actors who acted happy, sad, or otherwise on stage for the show, but by no means felt that way truly. The word hypocrite came to define those who carried the name as “pretenders”. It’s now clear why Jesus chose this word to define the Pharisees, lawyers, and scribes of His earthly days.y
