Re:WIND = Isaiah 42:8–12 / Isaiah 43:15–21
BIG IDEA: 2020 was a tough year, yet God is in control and doing something good. The promises of God are sure, and there is a sure way to embrace them.
APPLICATION: We will choose to focus our attention on the hope in God for our future and His Glory. We will truly embrace the promises of God by faith, by returning God’s promises to him in prayer and praise which puts that faith into action!
PRAYER
God thank you for this year, for what it has revealed in nations, families, and in our own hearts. God we praise you that this year is coming to an end because of its hardships and yet we praise you for your care and goodness through it. Please prepare our hearts for what you would do next in 2021. Prepare our hearts for acceptance and action!
Background

Isaiah lived during the decline of Israel in the shadow of Assyria. He spoke the word of God to a people who were “deaf and blind” (see 6:10), who refused to listen to his warnings of looming disaster. He warned that the sin of the people of Judah would bring God’s judgment, yet he also declared that God is sovereign and would use Cyrus the Persian to return them from exile. The book speaks of a “servant,” a “man of sorrows,” who would be “pierced for our transgressions,” accomplishing God’s purposes of salvation (52:13–53:12). The final chapters give a beautiful description of a new creation in which God will rule as King, judging the wicked and establishing eternal peace.

Isaiah 42:8–12 ESV
8 I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.” 10 Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. 11 Let the desert and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the habitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands.
Isaiah 43:15–21 ESV
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.” 16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, 17 who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: 18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. 20 The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, 21 the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.
