He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” 20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?”

Jesus understood his ministry as proclaiming to gospel. (18, 21)

Jesus speaks the words of the Father (John 12:44-50)

Importance of Jesus Words
Our response to the Words of Jesus will be used to judge us. (47-48)
I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
The Father has given Jesus His Words. (49-50)
And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

Apostles were given to Jesus. (6) This part of Jesus’ prayer is about the Apostles.

God has appointed Jesus to be the High Priest in the line of Melchizedek.
Jesus prays to be saved from death (resurrection). Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus death was the substitutionary sacrifice.
Jesus, as priest, brought the offering to God. (Heb 8-10)
Priest role
For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.
These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.

For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Hebrews 1:5 (ESV)

The writing of Hebrews has the superiority of Jesus as its main purpose.
Quoting 2 Sam 7:14; alluding to Ps 89:26-27
I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men,
He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’ And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
Shows that Jesus is the King to come by pointing back to these texts.
Jesus Exalted by God
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

After Jesus willingly went to the Cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, God raised him from the dead and exalted him to the highest place and sat Jesus at his right hand in authority. Jesus has full authority (Matt 28:18). He is Exalted. (Phil 2:9). Raised from the dead will not die again. (Rom 6:9). Therefore, Jesus is an eternal King in the Family line of King David.
