MS Message 12.16.2020 The Hope we have
The Hope of the upcoming surprise.
As we look at Christmas time we are in a time of celebration the season
A Time of surprises
The hope of opening presents and getting what we wanted
I was thinking about the hope and hoping for something this Christmas.
Then I started to think about ...What about the hope of those in the Old Testament.
They were waiting for a saviour
They were anticipating the saviour
But they trusted and hoped for it
We get to experience it. We get to enjoy it every year.
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
9:6 a son has been given to us The promise of hope through a future Davidic king. Attempts to connect this promise to a ruler of Isaiah’s day usually focus on Hezekiah, son and successor of Ahaz, the king to whom Isaiah delivered his warnings and who rejected his offer to provide a sign in. Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God This list of titles or attributes for the future king include divine titles that would be unusual if referring to a human Davidic king. For example, “Mighty God” clearly refers to Yahweh Himself in Isaiah 10:21.
They were given a sign -
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Jesus wasn’t yet born, but several from Old Testament times proclaimed his coming. And it came to pass.
John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
He’s not an unrelatable God. He lived among us.
Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Because of sin, we need a Savior. Mankind finds no other entrance to heaven than through Jesus, this Savior. He’s the reason for hope and our future.
Free Gift – We all like Gifts but the greatest free gift is Christ.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
God gives us a free gift. When we unwrap that package, we find eternal life in Christ Jesus. We can live with Him in heaven. Don’t miss this free gift. Accept it today
Hope in His Mercy
PS 147:11
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Jesus is the reason for the season because he brings hope to both bleak and bustling lives, for those of us in the darkness and those who’ve simply forgotten to slow down and enjoy the presence and love of our Savior.
Why Is Jesus the Reason for the Season?
God sent us His son, through the virgin birth of Mary, to offer salvation for the world.
The Christmas season is meant to celebrate not only the birth of Jesus but the gift of His life, death, and resurrection.
Christ, the hope of the world, loves you and I.
He’s available when we simply call on His name.
He forgives our sins and assures us of a future in heaven.
He comforts and brings hope.
Why not celebrate Him and His birth and make Jesus the reason for the season?
Are you celebrating Him during this Christmas time?
