After eating Jesus noticed that something was wrong with his followers. The coming event to pay the “bill” owed for sin flashed before Him. And the weight of dying consumed Jesus.
Jesus was not concerned about what people thought about them—for he knew their sins, their inconsistencies, their strife and their disloyalty to each other.
Yet, Jesus had to look beyond the cross even though it had not arrive. You see, in these unsharpened, disciples the evangelization of the world lay on their shoulders. And these unsure followers needed a hard lesson about Jesus’ mission to the world—and what theirs would soon become.
Look at Jesus through this text and you will see that He was troubled. Troubled for what?
Not for the soon to arrive mob!
But for the mission He must accomplish while the men closes to Him were shallow and not ready.
So, Jesus gets up from the Supper, girds himself with a towel. Now think! Jesus pours water into the a basin to wash His followers dirty feet.
When Jesus poured that water into the basin, WHAT DID HE PUT IN IT?
I declare to you — it was more than water!
Jesus reached into paradise and
PUT ALL THE ESSENCE OF THE FATHER IN THE BASIN
For John 3:16 says that the Father gave Christ to the world for your salvation.
If you have noticed when your read the gospels concerning Jesus the writers teach you how much the Father truly cares for you.
Consequently it was not a mistake, but a plan well thought out and the detail masterfully thought out.
When Christ mentions the Father and Him being One, Jesus refers to one in thought and plan concerning your salvation.
Make no mistake about it, all of the father’s essence went into that basin that would ignite those fledgling disciples.
Therefore “the initiative in salvation does not come from sinners” says Leon Morris, but “comes from God”
So Jesus put the Father’s love in the basin and . . . Jesus . . .
PUT ALL OF HIMSELF IN THE BASIS
Here in this text you see that Jesus was not too big, too powerful or too almighty to bend and rest His knee on the dirt to help His followers—indeed, to help us—as the the Word says, “God with us.”
When you really care about people has Jesus demonstrate you bend the knee to help them.
You put yourself into helping them overcome their failures. And instead of kicking them down to the ground you offer a hand to lift them up.
He gave all of the Father, all of Himself and . . .
HE PUT ALL OF HIS BLOOD IN THE BASIN
Jesus knew when the soldier would arrest Him—His disciple would cut and run.
They would deny Him
They would curse Him
They would Desert Him
Disown Him
Jesus knew all that and understood what they were thinking
That they were thinking about themselves
They inner selfishness about each other
and they would not lay down their live for Him and He would be doing for them.
It was all for “one” with a smile but when the soldiers would arrive it would be “every man for himself.
In that room Jesus would want them to know that after tonight, when their faith would be shattered, all would be well.
I came to save you when you were lost
And know matter what happens, know matter what you do after tonight, I FORGIVE YOU?
His blood would be for their forgiveness and for the all sinners.
So Jesus put in the basin all of the Father, all of Himself and he snapped down...
ALL OF HIS RECONCILIATION IN THE BASIN
Jesus was a conflict resolutionist.
He didn’t let strife drag on. When He saw it Jesus confronted it quickly.
This was a night of atonement for the disciples.
That evening experience became a day of atonement for them individually and and as a group.
And when Jesus was taken and later fastened to a tree He showed that He put much more that the you and I could ever see.
HE PUT ALL OF HIS HEART IN THE BASIN
HE PUT ALL
HE PUT ALL OF HIS SOUL IN THE BASIN
HE PUT ALL OF HIS STRENGTH IN THE BASIN
HE PUT ALL OF HIS BODY IN THE BASIN
HE PUT ALL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT INTO THE BASIS
Nothing was held back for then me. The King of Kings stooped to wash the feet of humanity
Just think about it—angels were looking on. At once when the angels saw this humility the entire angelic host rushed forward to stop Him and to do this filthy job. But the glory of the Father held them back
Here kneels Jesus—God—who flung the world into existence
Who formed man out of dirt
Who painted the blackness of space with stars and glaxies
Stoops to wash the feet of angry men.
HE PUT ALL OF HIS PEACE IN THE BASIN
So that you and I can have peace.
When they came and got him to kill him He was quiet and peaceful and He went about His work to heal captive people.
INDEED HE PUT ALL OF HIS LOVE IN THE BASIN.
The Word says, . . . He loved them to the end.”
Jesus put all that in the basin His disciple for the whole world and most certainly for YOU.
WHAT DOES HE WANT YOU TO PUT IN THE BASIN?
John 13:14–17 NKJV
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
Jesus want you to put all your
Love in the basin
Selfishness in the basin
Stubborness in the basin
sins in the basin
anxiety in the basin
hate in the basin
