Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.
The stone was not rolled away so that Jesus could get out but so we could see in: that the tomb was empty and our hope, even when facing death, could be full!
We know from the fact that Jesus appeared in the house where the Apostles were when the door was locked. (v19) He could have gotten out without the stone moved just as He got in when the door was locked.
This is why there is the description in the gospels of what they saw when they went in the empty tomb. (The tomb was empty of Jesus body but full of evidence that He was resurrected.) The wrappings that were around His body were in the same place (likely as if He had just passed through them) and the face cloth folded up and in a place by itself (v7).
The Angels were there as well inviting them (and us to come into the tomb and see that Jesus was alive.) (Matthew 28:6)
He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.
