Over the past few months we have been studying, cultivating and applying prayer to our lives.
We have been focusing on prayer and have seen God answer our prayers.
The definition of prayer is communion with God, usually comprising petition, adoration, praise, confession, and thanksgiving.
The ultimate object of prayer in both OT and NT is not merely the good of the person praying, but the honor of God’s name.
Prayer is intimacy with God that leads to the fulfillment of His purposes and will for our lives.
Our focus today will be on: Prayer is an act of Petitioning / Supplication
Open in Prayer
Father we honour and thank You, we thank You for Your Son Jesus and through Him we can have a personal relationship with You. We pray for Your wisdom and understanding as we study Your Word and we pray, that we will walk in all that You have called us to. In Jesus Name Amen.
Prayer is an act of Petitioning / Supplication
Meaning
Supplication (also known as petitioning) is a form of prayer, wherein one party humbly or earnestly asks another party to provide something, either for the party who is doing the supplicating (e.g., "Please spare my life.") or on behalf of someone else.
1. Supplication= requests -
Philippians 4:4–7 NKJV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
John 16:24 NKJV
24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
2. Some things he will only do if you ask
3. New Testoment Christians had power
Why don't we?
We don’t ask - they did!
There are many times in the bible it says ask, seek, knock, keep on asking
We need to keep building an intimate relationship with God
4. C.H. Spurgeon, "God never closes His storehouse until you close your mouth."
Matthew 7:9–11 NKJV
9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
5. What are you lacking, but never asked for?
6. What should you ask for? What you want.
Psalm 145:15–16 NKJV
15 The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. 16 You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Psalm 37:4 NKJV
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
As we begin to focus on God, our desires and will, begin to line up with God’s desires and will, we just need to ask to receive.
7. God cares about you.
Why ask? Joy made complete - happy
When we ask, it shows our desire, trust and need for God.
God gets blessed - show His love and resources,
We get blessed by receiving the answer,
World gets blessed by seeing God working

Psalm 121:1–8 NKJV
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.
