A Call to Remember and Obey

“Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then you will live and multiply, and you will enter and occupy the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors. 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.

THE BOOK OF DEUTERONOMY IS THE FITH INSTALLMENT TO MOSES’S COLLECTION OF WRITINGS CALLED THE PENTATEUCH

THE PENTATEUCH RECORDS THE HISTORY OF MANS BEGINNING IN GENESIS

GOD CALLING A HEATHEN NAMED ABRAM TO BE HOLY THAT HE MIGHT BIRTH A NATION AND A PEOPLE OUT OF HIM FOR HIMSELF

THE PENTATEUCH ALSO RECORDS THIS NATIONS TRIALS AND HARDSHIPS IN THE LAND OF EGYPT WHICH GOD DELIVERED THEM FROM ACCORDING TO THE BOOK OF EXODUS

EXODUS - DEUTERONOMY IS A RECORD OF GODS DEALINGS WITH THE NATION OF ISRAEL POST EXODUS

AND YOU BIBLE READERS ALREADY KNOW THAT ISRAEL HAD A HARD TIME ADJUSTING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS NEW FOUND RELATIONSHIP THEY HAVE WITH GOD

NOW WHEN I SAY GOD , IM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY OLD GOD

IM TALKING ABOUT ELOHIM - THE TRUE AND LIVING GOD

AND SO THE INTERESTING THING IS.... IS THAT GOD BROUGHT ISRAEL OUT OF EGYPT (the house of bondage and slavery) WITH A MIGHT HAND AND AN OUTSTRETCHED ARM

AND WHEN HE BRINGS THEM OUT, HE BRINGS THEM OUT WITH A PROMISE

THAT IM TAKING YOU TO A PLACE

AND HE SAYS THE ONLY WAY I CAN DESCRIBE IT IS THAT WHEN YOU GET TO WHERE IM TAKING YOU, .....EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS THERE IN ABUNDANCE

AND SO HE BROUGHT THEM OUT AND HE’S TAKING THEM TOO

AND I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE THIS MORNING

IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME

ON YOUR JOB

OR RIDING IN YOUR CAR

BUT CAN YOU JUST TAKE 30 SECONDS AND GIVE GOD GLORY

AND LET YOUR MIND RFLECT ON WHERE GOD BROUT YOU FROM

1 PETER 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

AND OUR SHOUT THIS MORNING IS

WE WOULD STILL BE IN SOME SITUATIONS AND SOME CIRCUMSTANCES... HAD HE NOT BROUGHT US OUT

WE WOULD STILL BOUND AND TAGLED UP HAD HE NOT BROUGHT US OUT

AND SO HERE WE ARE THIS MORNING IN THE LAST BOOK OD THE LAW ......IN DEUTERONOMY 8:2

AND GOD IS ABOUT TO PREPARE ISRAEL TO INHERIT WHAT HE HAS ALWAYS HAD FOR THER

THEY WERE IN BONDAGE IN EGYPT FOR 400 YEARS

AND THEY LINGERED IN THE WILDERNESS FOR 40 YEARS

AND NOW GOD IS ABOUT TO RELEASE THEM INTO WHAT HE PROMISED THEM

DEUTERONOMY 8: 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.

HE BROUGHT THEM TO THE WILDERNESS

HE ALSO BROUGHT THEM THROUGH THE WILDERNESS

HE BROUGHT YOU TO 2020

AND IF YOU STILL HERE HE BROUGHT YOU THROUGH 2020

GOD SAID I BROUGHT YOU THROUGH ALL THAT

I BROUGHT YOU THROUGH TO HUMBLE YOU

TO TEST YOU AND

TO SEE IF YOU WOULD OBEY MY COMMANDS

HERE’S THE REVELATION IN THIS TEXT AND THAT IS THAT OBEDIENCE ALWAYS PRECED’S BLESSINGS

PSALM 84:11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.

He gives us grace and glory.

The Lord will withhold no good thing

from those who do what is right!!!!!!.

BUT HERE ARE SOME PRINCIPLES TO HELP US STY ON TRACK

IF YOU AND I AM GOING TO LIVE AN OBEDIENT LIFE IN AND EFFORT TO REAP GODS BEST THERE ARE SOME PRINCIPLE WE MUST PUT IN PLACE

GET RID OF DISTRACTIONS

DISTRACTIONS COME IN MANY WAYS / FORMS

PERSON / PLACE / THING

JOHN 2:3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”

JESUS WAS FOCUSED!

IN DEUTERONOMY 7:3-4 GOD WARNS ISRAEL HOW TO INDENTIFY AND DEAL WITH DISTRACTIONS

DEUTERONOMY 7:3 You must not intermarry with them. Do not let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters, 4 for they will lead your children away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and he will quickly destroy you.

WHEN YOU GET TO THE PROMISE LAND ITS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO AND OBEY MY VOICE

AND DON’T INTERMINGLE OR INTERMARY WITH THOSE WHO ALREADY LIVE THERE

IM PLANTING YOU AS SALT AND LIGHT

MATTER FACT HE TELLS THEM WHAT HE TOLD JEREMIAH IN JEREMIAH 15:19b YOU MUST INFLUENCE THEM THEY MUST NOT INFLUENCE YOU

AND ITS HARD MAINTENANCING THIS BECAUSE

SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA CUT OFF FAMILY

SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA CUT OFF FRIENDS

2. GOTTRA DEAL DISCOURAGEMENT

JOHN 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

JOHN 6:70  Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”

PHILIPPIANS 2:5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

6 Though he was God,

he did not think of equality with God

as something to cling to.

7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;

he took the humble position of a slave

and was born as a human being.

When he appeared in human form,

8 he humbled himself in obedience to God

and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

3. GOTTA BE DETERMINED

PHILIPPIANS 3:12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
