Light that BRINGS PEACE

What is peace? Inner? Political

Do you experience hostility everyday? personal conflict; watch - sports, politics; facebook - think of a day free of hostility?

making peace- making: how are we doing?

experiencing peace experiencing: how are we doing? not always calmness, but confidence

outward - stop hostility; witness against it;

inward - hostility by your spiritual enemy; hostility by lies; low self esteem; grief; inner peace fights against

Story summary: Jesus comes to give light to everyone.

Not everyone recognizes the light - including his own people.

Those that did were adopted as children.

John 1:9 NIV

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

Main Question: How good are we at peacemaking? (show verse)

Main point: God gives us everything we need to experience peace and to make peace.

Beatitudes: the types of people who are happy, blessed by God; qualities of a disciple - peacemaker???

which gives light to everyone = means to “give knowledge, either inwardly or outwardly.

light - God gives us the knowledge we need to understand and obey:

fail to recognize it (even his own people) - choose evil; deeds are so evil they cannot recognize light; what brings us to this place?

or believe - God brings them into relationship, not religion; - not a religion or denomination; God wants more than membership

Matthew 5:9 NIV

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

John 1:10 NIV

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

Not everyone recognizes the light.

Vs. 10 in the world meaning humanity.

even though Jesus was in the world, he was walking with them and among them. He is Emmanuel, God with Us, the World did not know him.

and his own people did not receive him.
