Him for the Holidays
Him for the Holidays
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart In peace, according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
In the past few weeks, we have looked at:

Hope for the Holidays
Tonight, we are going to look at:
Him for the Holidays...
No greater gift
No greater joy
No greater grace could be extended to mankind, than the Lord Jesus himself...
In the passage, Jesus has now has been circumcised on the 8th day, and Mary has completed the 33 days of purification that was required before she was able to enter into the Temple - they will then offer their sacrifices and present Baby Jesus to the Lord - as is taught in Lev. 12
Praise
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
at the sight of the Christ child, Simeon praised God...
The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament A. εὐλογέω and εὐλογία in Greek Literature.
Literally εὖ λέγειν means (both in form and content) “to speak well.” either in the sense of “to speak finely” or “to speak well of someone.”
b. Eulogy -
To praise
to speak well
c. When Simeon saw the Lord Jesus, the natural response was to Praise God...
d. Anna the prophetess
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Two: The Lord Is Come! (Luke 2)
Anna was a prophetess, which meant she had a special gift of declaring and interpreting God’s message. Other prophetesses in Scripture are Miriam (Ex. 15:20), Deborah (Judg. 4:4), Hulduh (2 Kings 22:14), Noadiah (Neh. 6:14), and the wife of Isaiah (Isa. 8:3). The evangelist Philip had four daughters who were prophetesses (Acts 21:8–9).
This Christmas season, may our knowledge of the Lord, our view of the Lord, our perspective of the Lord cause us to Praise...
