And He Dwelt among Us: Teachings from the Gospel of John Chapter 7: What Really Matters to God?

I believe more than ever that anyone attempting to deal with John 3:16 undertakes an almost insurmountable task, requiring a great deal of sympathy and a generous love for God and men. No person should do this hastily

Here is gospel indeed, good news, the best that ever came from heaven to earth. Here is much, here is all in a little, the word of reconciliation in miniature.

God Loves The World

He Created the World
He Approved of the World
He Is Redeeming the World

To boil it down into the familiar terms and words we can understand, I can restate this phrase by simply saying it means I mean something to God. Once that phrase is stated, nothing more needs to be said. That sums up in compressed, pressurized fashion the whole intent of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.

Expository Thoughts on John, Vol. 1 Notes. John 3:9–21
To say that God loves us because Christ died for us, is wretched theology indeed. But to say that Christ came into the world in consequence of the love of God, is scriptural truth.

God Gifts The World

“So” - He loved the world in this way - He gave His only begotten Son.
Gifts are a primary way that we show love to the people that we love, since they cannot see our feelings on the inside. Those inner feelings come out in outer works like gifts or visible affection like a hug or a kiss, etc.
When God wanted to show the world His love,
He confronted the world’s greatest need.
He new the world’s greatest desire (eternal relationship with Him).

God Saves The World

Know Your Sin
Know the Sentence - Death
Know the Savior
“In a word, some of the clearest proofs they have had of his excellence have been occasioned by the mortifying proofs they have had of their own vileness. They would not have known so much of him, if they had not known so much of themselves.”
John Newton, Cardiphonia, 21.

God Is With The World

He is still moving by His Spirit and Saving
He is still moving by His Spirit and Sanctifying His Saints
He is here. He is with us.

Conclusion

In love, God gave the world’s greatest gift (His Son) to meet the world’s greatest need (forgiveness and cleansing of sin) in order to fulfill the world’s greatest desire (an eternal relationship with God).

And the Gift Gives On in the Children of God.

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

We should want to go and give the eternal love of God away in the same way, by giving the Son to people. He is the greatest gift for the greatest need to fulfill the greatest desire.
Run, my brethren, lest the darkness lay hold of you. Awake to your salvation, awake while there is time; let none be kept back from the temple of God...Awake, then, while it is day: the day shines, Christ is the day. He is ready to forgive sins
