CHIRSTMAS FACTS
Matthew 1:18
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:18).
This text gives us some important information about Christmas facts.
FIRST—THE VERIFYING OF THE FACTS
“The birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise.” The facts about Christmas are really messed up by the unbelieving world, but we can read them in the Bible and know the correct reason for why we have Christmas. “This wise [way]” is not how the world tells it, but it is the way that Christmas happened. We need to read the Bible to know how things really were. The liberal news media tries to convince us that what they say is this wise [way] about things but the facts do not support the liberal news media. The facts, however, support the Bible.
SECOND—THE VIRGIN BIRTH IN THE FACTS
“She was found with child of the Holy Spirit.” The virgin birth of Jesus Christ is one of the important facts of Christmas. Christ was uniquely conceived in Mary and this in principle illustrates at least three important truths about a person when they become saved and Christ comes to dwell in their heart in Gospel salvation.
• The cognizance of the indwelling Christ. “She was found with child.” That says Mary’s evidenced her pregnancy. You cannot conceal pregnancy for long, for soon it begins to show. Others notice. So it is when a person is saved, when Christ is received as Savior. It shows. People are cognizant that Christ dwells in you, at least they should be. Some claim to be saved and if they did not tell us, we would never know. If you are truly saved, if Christ truly dwells in your heart, it will be very evident. People will not have to ask if you are saved, they will know by your life that you are saved.
• The contempt from the indwelling Christ. “Mary was espoused to Joseph.” When Joseph found out that the girl he was engaged to was pregnant, he decided to end the engagement. It was only through the word from “the angel of the Lord” (Matthew 1:20) that kept Joseph engaged to Mary. Her pregnancy was more than he could take. Contempt for Mary came to Joseph because Christ dwelled in her. So it will be with the new convert. He will discover that not everyone is happy about his salvation. Some will mock. Others will reject him.
• The change from the indwelling Christ. “When as his mother Mary.” Christ dwelling in Mary completely changed her life. It is hard to imagine what a great change occurred when she conceived Christ. Things were never the same after that. So it is when a person is saved. The change in the life is great. The change of destiny is the greatest change. Instead of hell the eternal destiny is now heaven. Those saved later in life can see dramatic changes (2 Corinthians 5:17).
