Introduction

What will you remember about 2020?
OR better yet what will you try to forget?
I know we are praying that soon all the stress, change, aggravation, upheaval, etc will be a distant memory.
With all the challenges of this year, it is good to say goodbye to 2020 by focusing on what we should “Remember”
Luke 22:19 HCSB
19 And He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”

What Should I remember about Him?

His Sovereignty

Daniel 4:34–35 HCSB
34 But at the end of those days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my sanity returned to me. Then I praised the Most High and honored and glorified Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. 35 All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does what He wants with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. There is no one who can hold back His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”
This gives us hope and confidence. Just as Jesus’ death was not an accident, whatever is going on in life, God is working His plane.

His Justice

Romans 1:18 HCSB
18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,
You can’t help but look at the horror and the brutality of the cross, the suffering, without realizing that God is just. We remember that it was our sin. I remember that it was the ugliness of my sin that nailed Jesus to the cross.
This morning as you remember what Christ did, is there some sin that is weighing you down? Is there something that is keeping your from a close and clean walk with Jesus?

His Patience

2 Peter 3:9 HCSB
9 The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.
How often has God waited on us to respond to Him? How many times does He have to say to us that He wants first place in our lives, and that He deserves first place. We are His because He has made us. We are His because He has saved us. He pleads for lost people to give their hearts to Him, and He pleads for Christians to give Him first place. When we Remember Him around the Lord’s Table all these 2000 years later, we should think of His Patience.

His Love

Lamentations 3:22–23 HCSB
22 Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
Love! How can you not remember the broken body and shed blood of Jesus and not think of God’s love?
God so loved the world that HE GAVE!
