Intro

Names have changed, or ratyher the giving of names has chnged.
Today, for the most part, we chose our childrens names more on phonetics than meaning ie: We like how they sound, and give little or no thought to what they mean.
Rudy means lone wolf
Charles means free man
Justin means fair/righteous
Kallie means most beautiful
and Louie means renowned worrior.
Pretty impressive set of names there that lead UFGC!
But im sure most of these names were not given for the meaning, but how they sound, or maybe by tradition.
Afrikaans men get the Fathers name and their uncles added each time.
My dad is the 7th generation of du Plooy - Petrus, johannes Jacobus...
But there is one Name that is above them all, One Name that is above every Name.
Before the messiah was born we knew there would be something special about his name.
Isaiah 9:6 NASB95
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Then when Mary fell pregnat the Angel appared to Joseph and gave clarification:
Matthew 1:21 NASB95
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
The Name Jesus means: Jehovah Saves.
And it is a powerful Name indeed! We sing songs about it!
There is power in the name of Jesus
All hail the power of Jesus Name
There’s just something about that name
Jesus..name above all names....
The Name Jesus was not chosen because it sounded nice, had a good ring to it or was even Josephs fathers name tradition.
His Name was given because His Name would tell the world, would tell who hear His Name what his mission is.
In His own words Jesus:
Matthew 18:11 NASB95
11 “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.
Names convey meaning and even create emotion.
Some names when heard crerate fear:
Flu - COVID 19
SARS - not the virus but the Revenue sercvice
Mother In Law
Cyril Ramaphosa
All terrifying names!
But the Name of Jesus creates Faith! Hope! Peace!
Why? Because His Name is Powerful!

His Name has the Power to Save

Romans 10:13 NASB95
13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Acts 4:12 NASB95
12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
Jesus has the power to forgive our sins, wash away our transgressions and turn the vilest of sinners into the most precious of saints.
He saved Moses from his anger.
David from his adultry
Gidion from his cowardice
Paul from his murder
and Rahab from her prostitution.
And His names saved me and it can save you.

His Name has the Power to Heal

Not just from sickness but perhaps even more importantly: From pain and sorrow.
Miraculopus healing is wonderful and powerful and we give God the glory every time it happens. We see Jesus heal many people and even raise the dead.
But what happened to every pwrson Jesus healed eventually? What eventually happened to Lazerius after he was raised from the dead?
They died. Miraculous healing, as powerful as it is, does not stop death, it mearly postpones it.
The true power of Healing is the comfort and peace God gives his children in the Valley.
Psalm 147:3 NASB95
3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.
Psalm 91:15 NASB95
15 “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
This has been a hard year. Many of us lost people we love. For many of you this will be the first Christmas without them at the table.
The Name of Jesus is your comfort and may he comfort you indeed!

His Name has the Power to give Victory

Philippians 2:9–11 NASB95
9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Every knee, both physical and spiritual will bow to the Name of Jesus. If you are in Him then you are on the winning side.
1 Corinthians 15:57 NASB95
57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The opposite of victory is defeat. And by his Name we are not defeated. A person is defeated when they give up, they give up on hope.
But we have a blessed hope. A hope which cannot fade or be taken away.
1 Peter 1:4 NASB95
4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
Nothing can take away from what God has given you through Jesus Christ.
No lockdown, shiut down, fly down, hoe down, duck down, ghoose down, melt down can touch your treasure in Heaven for you.
And when you get to Heaven you will realise that you did not have 1 trial to many here on earth.
Because Jesus will never let you down.

Conclusion:

This Christmas We must be reminded that we dont need to live in fear and hope for a vaccine from Pfizer, when we have a cure and victory in Emanual.
