A. What kind of church would you like?

B. You can have whatever kind of church you wish.

C. The only place to find out what kind of church Christ wants is in the New Testament.

D. Here is the pattern for the best, most efficient church it is possible to have.

THE SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH | Acts
LOVE ACTS - 4 Part [1/4]
What is a Spirit-filled church? The best way to measure is to look at the early church of the book of Acts.
4 Marks of a Spirit Filled Church!!
Big Idea of the Message: Grabbing onto the vision of the local church means getting serious about serving through the Spirit. The church should be a group of Spirit filled people who not only evangelize and disciple others, but also offer hands of hope to those who are suffering.
Application Point: I will seek to be a Spirit filled follower of Christ and pray that we together are a Spirit filled church!

Love is not silent, Love is not still, LOVE ACTS
Acts 2:36–47 ESV
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 4:32–35 ESV
32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
Acts 16:20–33 ESV
20 And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 21 They advocate customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” 22 The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. 24 Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. 27 When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29 And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.
Acts 20:17–24 ESV
17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him. 18 And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia, 19 serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews; 20 how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house, 21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. 24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

MESSAGE

A GODLY CHURCH
Christ Centered
Each Christian recognized the church as Christ’s: His body, His bride, His building.
In every figure referring to the church Christ is pre-eminent: Sheep, shepherd; fold, door; servants, master; etc.
The church recognized the authority of Jesus: also the authority of His divinely appointed apostles.
The members appreciated the price with which they were bought—the precious blood of Christ.
A GROANING CHURCH
It was born in prayer.
It was steadfast in prayer.
praying for the lost
It prayed instead of grumbling.
Paul and Silas prayed and sang in prison.
The prayers of the early church were:
Short.
Reverent.
Definite.
A GIVING CHURCH
They considered themselves, as they were in fact, stewards, merely, of their possessions.
No one lacked.
They provided for the ministry.
They looked after the poor people.
A GROWING CHURCH
It grew in the favor of the community.
It grew in grace.
It grew in numbers: added, multiplied.
A GLOWING CHURCH
It attracted those outside itself.
It had power and persuasion.
A GOING CHURCH
They went everywhere preaching the Word.
They understood and acted upon the great commission.
People could not stop them—Romans 1:16. Paul was not ashamed of the gospel; criticism could not stop him.
Prisons could not stop them—Philippians 4:11. Wherever he was, Paul was content. Paul and Silas were even happy in prison (Acts 16:20–33).
Persecution could not stop them—Acts 20:24. Paul could say that despite his sufferings, nothing would make him give up Christ.
Problems could not stop them—Acts 6:1–15. All threats, and even murder, could not stop Stephen from serving Christ.
A GLORIFYING CHURCH
sadgas
Do you want a better church?
Be a better Christian!
To reach the lost and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15), the church must be filled with the Spirit. Forms and rituals will not accomplish the Great Commission. Plans, programs, and even money will not get the job done. As THIS church is filled with the Spirit, we will reach the lost with the gospel.

PRAYER
LORD God in heaven we can be and do all these things but if we are not Spirit filled and Spirit FULED then we are but engaging in dead works! I want more then that, we want more then that! We want to see your kingdom built, strongholds toppled, souls saved, chains of sin broken and your GLORY to be made known. We want to participate in what you are doing and we want a front row seat to watch. But enough about what we want God because this is about what you want. You want us to be a Spirit Filled church, you want us to be a growing church, you want us to be a glowing church, you want us to be a going church and you want us to be a groaning church. Help us to both pursue that and submit to you in what that means. Lead us oh God we pray! Catch our hearts afire with this Vision of who we are supposed to be! And Let it Be LORD!
AMEN
