Avengers End Game
The evil Thanos has brought “balance” to the universe.
In the final cosmic battle between good and evil.
Good is starring evil in the face, and the final scene of Thanos’s life, iron man is face to face with him,
Thanos get what he thinks is the infinity stones and goes to finish the job and snaps his fingers only to realize he had been hoodwinked and Ironman actually has the power and he snaps his fingers and Thanos is defeated.
Today we celebrate the reality that he has come.
But we celebrate the reality that there was a tidal wave of destruction heading towards humanity and God sends his Son. But instead of seeing a tidal wave of the armies of God, we see a baby, laying in a manger.
God response to an tidal wave of evil, isn’t a mighty king, its not a group of superheroes called the avengers. It’s a baby boy named Jesus.
So as we begin this message, as we go home tonight and celebrate with our family or friends, lets remember why our savior came.
Listen to how the Scriptures talk about the coming of Jesus.
Isaiah 9:2–7 ESV
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
This text is about Justice in the land. It’s about the judgment of God being poured out.
this text describes a people who have experienced horrors, persecution, difficulties in life and they are longing for light. They are longing for hope.
The tidal wave of darkness has overtaken them and now they have are looking for hope.
There light will have be named
Wonderful Counselor
This word in the Hebrew is used to describe a great general who HAS BEEN THROUGH BATTLE. HE HAS BEEN TO THE DARKNESS AND BACK.
Mighty God
THIS TITLE LITERALLY TRANSLATES FROM THE HEBREW AS GODLIKE HERO
He is a conqueror. He is an overcomer.
Everlasting Father
John 14:18 ESV
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
If he will be an everlasting Father that means you are wanted. It means you have purpose and you have identity.
He will infuse you with belonging
When you look him in the eyes. You know you belong. There’s a strength but softness to understand and love.
Prince of Peace.
The last one is the most important.
All three names buildup to this final title. All three point us to the conclusion.
Because this one is the wonderful counselor, the Mighty God, Everlasting Father he will be the Prince of Peace.
This peace will HAVE NO END.
God Knows there is a tidal wave coming for you and me and here’s what God does.....God puts a baby in the manger.
In the face of an overwhelming enemy God sends a baby. A baby who would grow to a man and stretch out his arms and run into the wave. Jesus jumped head first into the wave of our sin, our shame, our mess, in order to save.
Jesus would pay the penalty for our sin.

So this Christmas....

Do you need peace?
Has your year been rough?
Have your emotions been a bit all over the place?
Have you recognized the Tidal Wave thats coming and repented of your sins?
