8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
finally: He wasn’t finished, but he was summarizing the subject if submission.
12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Peter was saying we are to live a good a Honorable life.
a. We do so, that when people see the way we live that they want to come to Christ to glorify God.
b. This good life is a life of submission.
Submission: Not about self, not about what is best for me. (Elab on this is what is taught today.
39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
2. So, to have a blessed life, you must die to self and put others first.
Peter gives a list of 5 ways of attitude:
One mind: We may not always agree (disagree without being disagreeable)
minor disagreements in church. music, pews or chairs.
But there are things that we have to agree on. Trinity, deity of Christ. Death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
a. Being of one mind, means working together. Unity.
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2. Having compassion: GW sympathes. our word sympathy. “to feel with” suffering with someone.
“your pain in my heart”
a. Our hearts should go out to other believers. We should rejoice when they rejoice, we weep we they weep.
3. Love as brothers: GW philiadelphos: One who loves fellow believers as a brother.
Phily, the city of brotherly love.
b. Brotherly love Peter is talking about is Christian love.
Be tenderhearted: KJV “Pity” (Compassion)
a. Its more then just having pity for someone. You can have pity for someone and do nothing. But when you have compassion for someone, you get busy doing something about it.
36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
a. If you of we (PGBC) have compassion it will move us to help those in need. Helping those in need is a step to leading them to faith in Jesus.
b. We are to be like Jesus, the closer we get to Him, the more we will be like Him, and that will to more compassion.
4. courteous: Curt t us. Lowly in mind. TO be humble minded.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Jesus was the greatest example of being humble. Birth, His life to the end.
a. For to be humble, means we realize we don’t desire Gods blessings. But He still blesses us. All things come from Him, He provides for us. So in being humble we turn from self and turn to God.
b. If we want to be blessed, we need to have these attitudes. One mind, compassion, tenderhearted, humble.

II Right Response.
9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
In life there will be times when you are mistreated. Lie about you, yell at you. People will criticize you.
“not returning evil for evil”
Don’t pay someone back that had done you wrong.
Reviling for reviling” KJV railing. Speaking of verbal abuse. Someone yells at you, don’t yell back. Or it can just be a verbal attack of some kind.
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
a. When Jesus was on the cross, “Father forgive for they know not what they do”
“but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing”
New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update Chapter 3
for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.
b. If you want a blessed life, live like God says to live.
c. If we want to promote our faith, the Christian faith, we do so by love, not wrath.
Desire for a Blessed life.

10 For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
“Love life” it a desire be blessed, a loving life.
“And see Good days” Days that are peaceful, joyful.
3 things:
Tame the tongue. (What you say, how you say it)
Turn from sin.
Do good, seek peace.
“Let him refrain his tongue from evil”
8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Only the Holy Spirit in you can tame the tongue.
The tongue can get you in trouble. Have you ever said something then wished you didn't?
a. What comes out of the mouth is in he heart. Only the Holy Spirit can change that.
VS 11 “Turn from evil” Turn from sin. How can God bless us if we don’t turn from sin? Why should God Bless if we don’t turn from sin.
“Do good, seek peace”
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
a. Don’t look for a battle. Seek to be peaceful.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
because the Lord’s eyes are directed in a favorable attitude towards the righteous, and His ears are inclined unto their petitions, but the Lord’s face is against those who practice evil things
The Lord watches over you.
We can be joyful that the Lord blesses us.
The “Lords ears are open to our prayers” But remember, He had given us a list in these verses.
