Introduction

Something about the series
The prophecy: Gen 22:18
Genesis 22:18 NIV
18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
The fulfillment: Eph 1:3
Ephesians 1:3 NIV
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

Body

In Christ we are blessed with every spiritual blessing:
We are chosen (v. 4).
God loved you and chose you before He created a single atomic particle. He created the Universe so that you would know Him, fall in love with Him, and choose Him.
We are adopted (vv. 5-6).
Why adopted to “sonship”? Isn’t that sexist? In that time period, daughters didn’t inherit. Only sons could have an inheritance. God has not simply adopted us as His children in Christ, but we are inheriting children. We are heirs in Christ. Look at verse 14.
As heirs in God’s family, all the riches and glory and splendor of Heaven belong to us.
We are forgiven (vv. 7-8a).
Heralding pardon from the King…
We are called (vv.8b-10).
God has revealed to us His will, and given us a significant purpose in life. His plan for the world is this: “to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ” (v. 10).
We’re not simply saved from sin and death, we are saved to God’s mission in the world.
We are included (v. 13a).
“All this sounds good, too good. It’s nice that God would do this for other people, but He would never include me. You don’t know my past. You don’t know my demons. You don’t know my pain. I’m not smart or good or caring. Why would God be interested in me? There are bigger fish out there. He’s got more important things to do than to come for me.”
That’s where you’re wrong. Look at verse 13… God has included you in His plan. He’s sending out invitations inviting people to turn from sin, receive His forgiveness, and be adopted into His family, and He has an invitation with your name written on it.
You can RSVP tonight.
We are sealed (vv. 13b-14).

Conclusion

God is not passive. In all these things He is the initiator.
Illustration: Holy mountain…
God came down the mountain for you. Will you go up the mountain with Him?
