Overcoming-Learning to Let Go

(theme songs to play: Let Go, Dive In, Brave)

Intro-been focusing on things that overwhelm. Understanding that we are overwhelmed is just a starting point. God has bigger/better plans for our lives.

Need to move on knowing that God doesn’t want us to live lives filled with anxiety, etc. and start to overcome

How do we overcome these things?

Get past these things? Learn to live content no matter the sit.

Bible has much to say about overcoming: ( appears 16 times)

-pleas:    Mark 9:24-“help me overcome my unbelief!

Rom 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good

-Proclamations:

In this world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world! (John 16:33)

For everyone born of God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4-5)

Great promises! How do we obtain them? How do we become overcomers of the very real problems we face?

What does it mean to overcome?

First, understand that overcoming is a process.

-Don’t just pray, see flash of light and everything good.

-important lessons to be learned. Often us learning something new.

-Autobiography in 5 short chapters-video presentation

Second, not just talking about psychology-healing hurts, changing bad habits, etc. If that’s all there is..then don’t need church.

-We are spiritual creatures. also have deeper spiritual need. Spiritual wounds/needs, evil influences.

Overcoming is letting God change fundamental ways that we think about the world and respond to it. It is taking all we know about what is good, right , wise, safe an d calling it rubbish if it doesn’t line up with God’s wisdom.

Helps overcome the stuff…and elevates our lives & spirits to the level God wants for us so that we may live content in every moment and walk boldly and confidently as His represenatives on the earth.

Whatever situation is in life, there are things God wants us to overcome.

How do we overcome

First step in actually overcoming it to realize the real work has already been done by Jesus!

John 19:30-crucifiction “It is finished!”

1 John 5: Who is it that overcomes? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God!

2 Cor 5:17 - 17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Rev 12:7-12: great battle.  Accuser has been cast down. Overcame by blood of the lamb and word of their testimony

Blood of Lamb-Jesus won the real battle for us. Not  anything we do…it’s not our ability to discipline our lives, or figure things out…it’s not me imparting anything to you…it’s all Jesus.

Word of their testimony. Things God has done for us-remind us to trust.

When it gets right down to it...from smallest worry to deepest, most dangerous issues we face….overcoming begins with acknowledging Jesus and trusting in Him and what’s he’s already done for us…

Are you willing to trust him in every situation?

Easy to say…what about worst moments in life...

When want to throw in the towel…kill someone…feeling the lowest scum of the earth for what you just did…again…

We need to let go of our own ways of thinking and let Him work in us and through us

We need to wait for Him to act in the way that He knows is best

Wait prayed, seek Bible sought out Godly council before majot decisions.

When his will is clear to us…do it..now..without question.

Every molecule signs God’s praises, everyneurological impulse begins with Jesus isLord, He has overcome, and I only overcome through Him..

Know what I think that feels like?

parachute jumping….church planting…letting go

(Mark 9:23-24 If I can?

What’s it going to take to really let go…and really trust God?

Who is God to you? What’s stopping you? Is you life worth trusting to God?

Be willing to let go and trust him wherever He leads…

Risky?  Absolutely.  Nothing worthwhile isn’t.
