Introduction

Too often we expect God to take ownership for fixing our problems without us taking accountability for our problems. When life becomes a burden, pandemic strikes, political structures begin to decay, justice begins to dissipate, marriages start to dissolve, children become reckless, money becomes funny. When all of these things have compiled to make us feel as though we have been pressed to our limit, that’s when we want to return to God. However, this pattern of unrest and uncertainty driving us back to God is not new nor is it novel. It’s not just our pattern. It was Israel’s pattern as well. It seems that we want reprieve without repentance.
The problem with this idea of God, is that it does not account for the fact that because God is eternally consistent, he cannot just change his mind about something. Much in the same way that we have invoked his anger, we much take effort to plead for his mercy.
So can we expect God to restore us after we’ve stumbled?
Because of God’s love for us and nothing else, we have open invitation to return to God even after we’ve stumbled. There are some things we must consider
