Is it Important to Remember John the Baptist at Christmas

The Word Became Flesh

John’s Gospel begins totally different from the sonoptic Gospels and he comes at his Gospel centered on Christ, His light and his love. Over the past Advent season we talk a lot about the light our Lord brought to us sinners. John not only had Jesus as front and center of his Gospel but on the whole reason God’s son was put on this earth. His love for us allowed Him to redeem us from all our sins, a gift we can never repay but thankfully He will never ask us to repay. He gave his life willingly and all he asks is that we remember him and to accept Him as our savior. We need only repent are sins to him, which by the way you can not hide from him.

Now John the Baptist laid the way the way for Jesus to come into the world through a baptism of repentance. He was the first prophet for over 400 years. The very first time that God spoke to his people. through a prophet. His birth was also a miracle as his mother had been barren all her life but an angel of God told her husband, Zechariah she would have a son who would do great things for the Lord.

John grew up a short distance from Nazerath where Jesus lived and was probably aware of him since he was his second cousin but there is no mention of them interacting as they grew up. But John was aware of the glory the lord bestowed upon him to paved the way for Jesus to begin His ministry.

It is interesting to note That John was also name as a prophet for several other religions including Islam. He had a hugh following some of which became Deciples of Christ. He was a major figure in early Christian era. We never seem to realize how important he was, Thinking about it though we should realize how important since he was chosen by God to bring his message of repentence.

I think we should explore further how important John was to the Christmas story. So let us take a deeper look at this important part of the Christmas Story.
