My new sermon
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
“Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
The above verses are some that I use often.
They faced peoples on the western side of the Jordan River who had become so steeped in iniquity that God would cause the land, so to speak, to spew out these inhabitants (Lev. 18:24, 25).
The book begins with the history, not of Joshua’s life (many remarkable passages of that we had before in the books of Moses) but of his reign and government.
