Colossians 1:14–18 (NKJV)
14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
image n. — a visual representation (of an object or scene or person or abstraction) produced on a surface. a living image, likeness, appearance. the same word as in Rom 8:29 - we are to be conformed to the image of the Son
invisible adj. — impossible to see. Mtt 5:8 The pure in heart shall see God. Jn 3:3 born again.. see the kingdom…, J n 11:40 Believe to see the glory of god. Mtt 19:26 - rich young ruler...All things are possible with God
Firstborn - existing first, existing before. first ⇔ firstborn adj. — preceding all others in time or space or degree; probably understood as still including all the rights and privileges that accompany being a physical firstborn.
universe ⇔ creation n. — the universe understood as an object which God brought into existence. Governance system, authority system
were created -to be created (state) v. — to be or become brought into existence. to make habitable. to people, a place, region.
heaven n. — the abode of God and the angels. the vaulted expanse of the sky with all things visible in it. God’s realm
earth n. — the place where human beings and animals live; modernly understood as the third planet from the sun. Man’s realm
visible adj. — capable of being seen. open to view
invisible adj. — impossible to see. hidden to view
ruler ⇔ throne n. —thronos- a ruler understood by their chair of state.
dominions kyriotes-ruler ⇔ authority n. — a person who exercises (administrative) control over others.
principalities -arche- beginning -ruler (supernatural) n. — any supernatural being (besides God) acting in a ruling or commanding capacity; either good or evil.
powers - exousia ruler ⇔ authority n. — a person who exercises (administrative) control over others.
consist -to be composed v. — to be or become composed of many parts into a cohesive and enduring whole. unite, collect, combine, to hold together- to approve, the creation -it was good
Head/leader ⇔ head n. — a person who is in charge; understood as a head which is the uppermost part of a human body. the loss of the head destroys life, often used for capital and extreme punishment.
body n. soma — the entire structure of an organism, animal, or human being. Slaves, that which casts a shadow as distinguished from the shadow itself. from the root word sozo to save or deliver, heal or make whole
church (universal) eklessia n. — all believers across the world understood as if a singular assembly; sometimes of all believers throughout time. from 2 root words, ek -primary preposition denoting origin (place, time, or cause ) Kaleo- to call, invite, to give a name to
The beginning-arche-first cause n. — an agent that is the cause of something but does not itself have a cause. magistrate, power, principality, rule
dead (group) n. — people who are no longer living; with focus on their immaterial substance. properly- without life, lifeless, metaphorically- spiritually dead, inactive as respects doing right, destitute of power, inoperative
may have-to become (condition) v. — to enter or assume a certain state or condition. come into a new state of being
preeminance -to be first v. — to be or become ranking above all others. to have Superior status
