Introduction

Welcome to Hype tonight! For those who don’t know me, my name is Kent and I’m the youth pastor here. This began this past semester talking about why we need to have our identity in Jesus, then we talked about how we do this through the gospel when we explored what the gospel is, then we talked about how to have a gospel worldview as we see current events in this world through the lens of the gospel. This brings us to this semester, which we will take the gospel worldview that we taught last semester and learn how to apply it to our everyday lives as we live on a Gospel Minded Mission.
Think about astronauts for a moment. They are given specific missions to find out more about our planet; earth, our solar system, and universe. When they discover something new, they apply it to their lives and they share their discoveries with the general public so that the lives of the public will be changed. Don’t believe me? There is a list from NASA of 20 everyday items that we wouldn’t have if there were astronauts who did space travel. I’ve shorten the list to 6 six things that probably affect the everyday life of a middle school/high school student.
1. Camera Phones
2. Athletic Shoes (Specifically Nike’s)
3. Home Insulations
4. Wireless Headsets
5. Memory Foam
6. Portable Computer/Computer Mouse
We as Christians have been given a mission to spread the gospel where ever we go.
We see this in Acts 1:11-15
Acts 1:6–8 CSB
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
As we pursue this mission we too will discover things that we will apply to our daily lives. For this teaching series we will be looking at stories in the book of Acts of people who had this gospel-minded mission.
For tonight we will look at the story of Lydia found in Acts 16:11-15.
Since we are going through a section of scripture that has a story, what we call narrative, we will be going through these stories similar to when we went through Ruth this Summer.
Observation, Interpretation, Application
So if you have your bibles with you please meet me in Acts 16:11-15.
Pass out bibles to students who need one.

11 From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, a Roman colony and a leading city of the district of Macedonia. We stayed in that city for several days. 13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate by the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and spoke to the women gathered there. 14 A God-fearing woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
