Application of the 23rd Psalm

Notes
Transcript
The Lord revealed Himself to us as the Shepherd.
Many of the books of the Bible use this metaphor centering the focus on the great care the Shepherd gives to the flock and the inability of the sheep to navigate through their life without the wise shepherds intensive efforts.
Most of you know that I have no shepherding experience; in fact, I am a city/suburban in my upbringing with no experience of farming at all.
That fact makes me feel very limited in my preaching on this topic. Probably why I am just now coming to this study.
At the same time, I cannot excuse myself from this topic because I lack modern experience. The Lord used this metaphor so extensively in the Scriptures that we cannot pretend ourselves to be diligent students of the Word without becoming closely aware of the methods of shepherding and the impact of that study on the meaning of so many passages of Scriptures.
For my study, I am very indebted to the great and popular work of W. Phillip Keller’s A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23.
Because I used this resource so much, it would be helpful if you read this work (available on Kindle for next to no cost). The series of sermons will last us through the month of June.
I have also included the reading and study of many other resources in my library.
Our commitment is to enhance our understanding of the meaning behind the statements of Psalm 23 - to give the Word and the sense of it.
