Psalm 29
A psalm of David.
1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion[b] like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[c] and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
word of God for- people of God you may be seated in the presence of God
As the Holy Spirit Guidance - I would like to talk about
There is peace in the thunder

Intro - story

Intro
Talking Point 1
- I was taught growing up that we should not talk while the thunderstorm was going on.
- I was told that God was doing his work. And that we should not talk or even move
- the belief was not so much that there was danger in the electrical storm. But that there was the activity of God around you and that you should respect it and not say anything or even move.
- Sometime the lightning would crash (wake you from your sleep boom!!) in the middle of the night.
Intro - Anti-thesis (the world view)
These are contrary points that you will disprove
Talking Point 1
- I used to think that this practice was silly. Why are we doing this.
- but after reading Psalm 29 I’ve had a change of heart.
- we can look at nature and we can look at the events around us and see God is speaking and moving in the world. There is a thunder!
- we have stop respecting God’s word. Do we hear the thunder and do we see his word moving and affecting our lives?
Intro - Thesis
(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
As David stands and cries out to God in despair, he cries to God and the he begins to hear and recognize God’s voice. It is believed that he wrote this Psalms while witnessing a thunderstorm. He acknowledges God’s voice IN the thunderstorm, and he begins to recognize the activity of God.
He sees the activity of God and watches how it changes things around him, it nourishes and in some cases even destroys things around him. that are on the earth. But through it all the word of God is the foundation through which all children of God can hold onto and be safe and find peace. Because even after storm blows all night, God will bring you joy in the morning and will make things right.
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) We shall recognize and fear God for who he is for his power and dominion over the earth.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?)
We shall take the time to reverence God by giving him the glory honor and praise and worship.
The theme is related to: reverence and recognition. We must understand how I got interacts and relates to us in the world.
- What is the function?
You can be comforted to know that they have an all-powerful God that is on your side
They won’t be afraid when the storm comes. They won’t be afraid when they hear the thunder. Because they will know that even though the thunder is loud that the voice of God has shown up to bring deliverance.
People don’t realize that: Their father lives in the heart of the storm.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about Fear the storm but don’t be afraid
Intro wrap and three points you will cover

Transition from Intro to Point 1
***Good Transition here tie everything together**
Set up a good transition to your next point. Put something here that you will read!

Point 1 –The praise belongs to God!

1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.
Explain What biblical writer is saying – draw from your exegesis work..deep explanation.
- Psalms song book song series – Psalms books can sometime be connected like chapters in a book!
- To set the stage and have an understanding of what is going on, in Psalm we have to take a look at Psalm 28.
- Psalm 29 is in response to Psalm 28.
Psalm 28
Of David.
1 To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. 2 Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.
In 28 - David calls out to God, Asks God for help, begs God to hear him. And God responds to David first and foremost
Give me Praise Glory and honor
Or first of all recognize who I am.”I need you to recognize”
1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) We shall recognize and fear God for who he is for his power and dominion over the earth.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?)
We shall take the time to reverence God by giving him the glory honor and praise and worship.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?)
Here we are focusing our attention on God to give him the focus and understand who he is in our lives.
Point 1 - Subpoint 1- Title…. Talking Point 1
- Before we start asking, we should start praising? In 2021. You’ve pulled back the curtain.
- Do we recognize who God is?
- Do you know who you are talking to when you pray each day?
- We may have gotten a little slack when we relate to the Almighty?
- God has turned into a point and click savior.
- We are not able to contain him on our iPhone app.
Talking Point 2
- God is almighty he is all powerful give him glory honor and praise.
- go and reference other songs and plug in what David says about God being Almighty and his attributes.
- After Psalm 29 I think David got what God was trying to tell him because later he wrote.
Supporting Scripture Psalm 145[a]
A psalm of praise. Of David.
1 I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. 2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.

The people of this time considered the weather and things that we think are normal to be supernatural. How does thunder and lightning come from the sky. How does the wind blow. How do these things happen. Thunder was the voice of God. (we’ve lost this)
