Introduction:

I’m quite sure you’ve heard the saying, “When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade”.

And if you’re familiar with that saying then you understand that it is a challenge to our Perspective on what life can sometimes bring.

Life is not fair, and is often filled with the harsh reality of various trials.

The question is...How do see the trials that come your way? Do you see them as problematic or purposeful?

Today my pray is that our mindset in regards to the trials in our life will change and line up with what the bible has to say about our trials, their purpose and where they will ultimately lead us if we develop the right attitude.

I. Our Trials Are Inevitable.(v.2)

James 1:2 ESV
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,

A. Notice James doesn’t say “if” but “when”

B. Believers must expect trials to come their way.

John 16:33 ESV
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Acts 14:22 ESV
22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

C. James also reminds us of the nature of our trials. He says, our trials are “trials of various kinds”.

ex. Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, Spiritually

D. James says, “Count it all joy”...

II. Our Trials Serve A Purpose.

A. Testing of our Faith.

Trust the Process...

1. Produces Endurance.

Steadfastness- the capacity to hold out or bear up in the face of difficulty...
Romans 5:3 ESV
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
Hebrews 10:36 ESV
36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

2. Produces Maturity.

“that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 ESV
23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

III. Our Trials Lead Us To Prayer.

A. Ask God for Wisdom.

1. God gives it ---Generously without Reproach

Matthew 7:7 ESV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

B. Ask God in Faith.

Mark 11:24 ESV
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

1. The one who doubts must not expect anything from God.

We Find Triumph in the Midst of Our Trials when we recognize that even though our trials are inevitable, they serve the purpose of God to mold and make us to be more like the One Who gave His life for us.
