January 10, 2021 - Move Forward Following the Ancient Path

And I got to tell you it's just through Jeremiah. He says stand at the wheeze and see and ask for the ancient paths with a good way is and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls.

We're going to look at the possible stones of the ancient Foundation. For that path that that ancient path that God wanted us to walk. They are still important to us today. We'll discuss the problems that each of those that we have with each of those the live them out in the day that have every day. And will understand our part and gods part in each of them because that helps us get around those problems that we have with them. And we'll leave encouraged and challenged the find the rest we need for our souls. Can I pray? Heavenly father. I do want to thank you for everyone who's here and everyone who's watching everyone who will watch later and Lord got wherever they are and whatever moment they are. I do speak peace to them. And Lord I ask for that yearning in our soul to find rest real rest, not diversion. Not laziness. Not Slumber rest. And I pray Lord God that we would we would want what you want for us. And accept what you've done for us in your name, we pray. Amen.

So the first stone that I believes in the foundation of his agent pathway that that it comes from the prophet Micah we can go back further in scripture than my cup of Micah sums it up. So beautifully you don't make a prophesied between 7:50 BC and 6:36, BC. He like Jeremiah prophesied before the fall of Jerusalem Micah did to actually he prophesied before the fall of Samaria. Samaria was the Northern Kingdom capital Samaria fell in 722. BC. Jerusalem didn't fall until 587 BC. Now some of you are hearing numbers in your minds are just going whatever but I got to tell you is I studied this again reminded myself this blew me away to no end because in world history. We get so familiar with the stories we realized there is not much else in the world that's is ancient in the Bible. There are some and I've read them all. And they are awesome in their own way and scary in their own way too. But so is the Bible teaching book. Let's not let's not lose fact that let's not lose that in Micah 6 starting at verse 6. He says what can we bring to the Lord and who should bring him burnt offerings. Should we bow down before the most high with your offerings in yearling yearly cashier 3000 rims in 10,000 rivers of oil. Should we sacrifice the first born children that pay for our sin? No old people the Lord has told you what is good and what he requires of you. And that is to do right to love mercy and to walk humbly. The first stone in the path ancient pathway that we need to walk is righteousness. Righteousness, what is righteousness righteousness is how make a defined it it is doing right loving Mercy walking humbly.

There's a problem with righteousness. There's a problem with us. Trying to be righteous. Maybe is a better way to say it. That's it when we try to do this ourselves. It never works out well. we have apart But God has a part as well. He hasn't he has not designed us to accomplish his will without him. Father doesn't intend us to become more like the sun without the help of Holy Spirit. He has not designed us to accomplish his will without a it without him. Does this really matter? Be by 11, like that's that's doesn't matter. It does matter for two important reasons one righteousness is part of our identity. 1st John 2:29, if you know that he is righteous. You know that everyone who practices righteousness has also been bored of him. What that's a huge burst. We're going to leave it at that. Definitely. We said the God loves those who pursue righteousness Proverbs 59, but the Way of the Wicked is an Abomination to the Lord but he who loves the one he who is he who loves the one but he loves the one who pursues righteousness. That's what it says. righteousness matters but righteousness is not up to us.

our part in righteousness I found three things that we can do. But we really can't do it without God. The first thing that we can do is is scripture 2nd Timothy 3:16. All scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching review correction and training in righteousness. The Bible us spending time in the Bible is important for us to have righteousness and be righteous. But I hope you noticed that it it's scripture is inspired by God. You can study the scripture and be farther and farther away from God. Oh, I'm finding some really whacked out theology online lately and it just it blows me away and it's just like white. How can you be this anyway? I can see this. Okay, because in the Bible it says that God gives us a spirit of stupor to those who are are basically self-righteous. Spirit of stupid. Spirit of stupor literally can be called Espiritu stupid and that's exactly what they do. Anyway, not part of it anyway, so scripture scripture. Yes us our part is getting in the book. His part is Illuminating it for us to inspiring it for us. Faith. Faith is our part. Oh, but by the way face actually is our response to his Revelation our response to God's revelation is what Philippians 3:9 says and may be found in him not having a righteousness in my own derived from The Lofts. But that which is through faith in Christ. The righteous Justice that comes from God is the basis of faith. Yes, our rule is to be in those places when we are have the revelation of God. So in the moments of worship in the day-to-day of every day when we got it work when we look back and reflect on how he's taking us through a situation or problem. That's when we be coming off of him. That's when Faith arise is in knots for the next time the testimony we hear of other people we hear what God has done in them. And then Faith arise is a response to the revelation of God, and that's what we need to hear. We need to hear each other's testimony. You got a testimony you got to share it because your testimony will let Faith arise in me and my testimony will let Faith arise in you we need to make space for that. We need to sneak time for that. We need to ask those questions. What is Ben God been doing in your life, and we need to get those answers with more than I don't know. Anyway, we have a rule but it's really all up to God wisdom. Okay, wisdom wisdom brings righteousness. Look at this James 3:13 who among you are a wise and understanding let him show it by good behavior and the Deeds Done in gentleness and wisdom.

You need wisdom. How do you get wisdom you ask of God who gives generously without finding fault. You have a rule you seek out wisdom you search for whisk you ask God for wisdom. He gives you the wisdom our rule. We've got to roll a guy's roof is he's he's he's not going to let you become more like Jesus without the help of holy spear.

Righteousness is not all up to us. Thank God his name is righteousness Jeremiah 23:6 in the day. Judah will be saved and Israel will be live securely and his name will be called the Lord our righteousness. He became sin so that we can be called righteous II Corinthians 5:29. He made him who knew no sin be sent on our behalf so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. Search he has given us everything we need for life and godliness 1st. Peter 3 1-3. His divine power has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness with true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence. Righteousness is not up to us. But righteousness is something we pursue righteousness is something we honors righteousness is something where no one buys righteousness is something we live out we need to do right and be right in love right and we we need to do it. But holy spirit empowers us to do that.

We can't do it ourselves. Our righteousness is not good enough Isaiah says in Isaiah. 61:10. God says to Isaiah.

Oh, that's a good one. I'll read that one Isaiah 61:10. I will rejoice in the greatly in the my Lord. My soul will exalt in my God for he has fooled me with garments of Salvation. He is wrapped me with the robe of righteousness a bridegroom decks himself out with Garland and write it as a bride adorned herself with jewels. God places his righteousness on us. So it's not that were coming out of righteousness. It is not that we're doing it in ourselves.

We do right because we've been made right? We it's not that we do right so that would be called righteous. That's the difference there we do, right because we have been made righteous. It's not that we do right so that we've been can be called righteous. That makes sense. It's a huge shift, but it makes all the difference in the world.

When we ask for wisdom, I don't know why I put this in here, but this is good to wisdom. The guy that this is what wisdom God gives us wisdom from above wisdom is from above is first of all pure. This is James 3:17.

Wisdom from above is first of all pure. It's also peace-loving gentle at all times and willing to yield to others. It's full of Mercy in the fruit of Good Deeds that shows no favoritism in his always sincere and those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. Why did I want to say that because the second stone that I believe is in the foundation of the pathway ancient pathway. We need to follow second stone is the stone of peace. Peace and righteousness are together. It's like they are cemented on a firm foundation for us. Second stone is is look at how they're connected Isaiah 32:17. The work of righteousness will be peace in the service of righteousness quietness and confidence forever. It's the work of righteousness is peace. Thomas tells us in Psalm 85:10 righteousness and peace kiss righteousness and loving kindness and truth and Method gather righteousness, and he's have kissed each other. They are so intertwined and so interconnected when we are righteous we live at peace. Self-righteous. There's always War anger. You're always accusing. You're always condemning. You're always putting someone else down. Not you but other people

God's righteousness leads to peace it's always connected to peace.

Peace Isaiah 54:10 says for the mountains will be removed and the hills May Shake, but my favor will not be removed from you nor will my Covenant of Peace Ever Be Shaken says the Lord who has compassion on you.

How many kids can testify here today that you need? Peace? Your online you can save pay man. I got so many men coming in now you can take him and not a woman. What's the problem with peace? What's the problem with us having? Peace?

Not recognizing the treat, you know where this is going. It's like I've telegraphed it to easily. Anyway, I think the following with piece for me is I give up. Peace way too easily. It's a I I don't I don't guard it jealously. One thing I'm learning is a question I ask myself is is this worth worth the price of peace?

You don't like, oh the only one customer service during this time. It's ridiculous. It's up.

I've got 250,000 Twitter followers except most of them of the left last week. But besides that I could really cause trouble for companies that don't provide any good customer service, but is it worth my peace? Is it worth me getting upset over is it I don't? I don't always make the right choice there. Does it really matter if peace is so easy to give up you can flip the next life cuz that's a cool one, too. Does it know that's not the best when the next one is really better?

Why does it matter righteousness as part of our identity? Peace is proof of our Authority. What do I mean by that? I found this picture on Facebook this week and I thought it was awesome. I shared it a few times. You can flip the next side with a Facebook post their ego. It says this year. I want to be more like Jesus. I want to hang out with Sinners upset religious people tell stories that make me think of people think she was unpopular friends. You kind loving and merciful and take naps on boats.

The only the only one I would change on that is but take naps on boats because I'd rather say I want to sleep in any storm.

Because any storm you can sleep in is a storm you have authority over.

Jesus was never worried by the storms.

Paul to the Philippians in 1st Philippians, 1:28 8th and 1st Philippians. That's an interesting verse Philippians 1:28 in no way be alarmed by your opponents, which is a sign of Destruction for them but of salvation for you, and this dude is from God.

When you have peace at all times and in every situation the ones who come against you, and I'm talking about your real enemy. Not the one you think you're fighting your real enemy is reminded where they are destined to be. And that really bugs them. It's a sign to them that their perishing. This is proof of your Authority.

Same thing with righteousness. We have a part two piece, but God has a bigger part 2 play. We do have a part to have peace in our lives. Our part is to trust. Isaiah 26:3 you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. If you are not feeling peace figure out where you stop trusting God.

but really is it's it's He'll show you that he'll take you there. He'll he'll show you how you can trust him again. I want to see that properly about anyway, ask me later. I'll say it better. God's part in peace is let's never forget. This God is the one who gives us peace. Write the Ancient Ancient Ancient blessing that Aaron was supposed to give to the people was may the Lord bless you and keep you numbers 26 24-26. May the Lord bless you and keep you may the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.

Peace comes from God it's not something you can force yourself to have. It's not something you can condemn yourself into having it's not something that you can Sheen yourself into having. It comes from trusting The God Who is crustable? And for you to understand that he's pressed apple. Maybe there's some healing that needs to take place for things that you believe are true. That aren't really true. Maybe there's something in there that that that God needs to show you the truth off.

He'll do it if you ask him.

Peace is not something you can force yourself to have you can't fake it to you make it you can't you can't choose to have a C-section.

does life happens and you're you're not going to You're not going to be able to fake it.

But we are told to do. Is to trust him.

And if we want peace. The Bible tells us to not worry about anyting. Well, how do you do that? Will you pray about everything? And how do you pray? Will you pray with Thanksgiving?

Worry about nothing pray about everything. With Thanksgiving you worry about nothing. You take that energy you would take into worrying and you think about what is right and what is true and what is pure and what is trustworthy and you and all the good stuff the same energy that you would take on worrying. Is it you that's a meditation is what you're doing start meditating on the things of God instead of worrying. Ask him for his help because he's not going to let you become more like Jesus without help of holy spirit. So he will give you everything you need for life and godliness. He will show you what how to do this. Ask him. Don't worry about anything you pray about everything prayer needs to be in exchange. We come to him with our problems and we exchanged them for his peace. When we don't stop praying until we have that exchange take place, too often. We've learned give him our list of things and then move on with our day. That's not what prayer is that's complaining. What you do is you come with his with with that list, but you don't leave until you have that piece until you have his piece.

It's not psychological Soother. It's not something to trick yourself prayer is an exchange and you ask Holy Spirit to do what you you can't do in your own. You can't make that exchange as a supernatural thing. Ask him he'll do it. What it says in Philippians is you don't worry about anything you pray about everything with Thanksgiving and the peace of God that transcends all understanding will be yours. That's the piece we want it all times and in every situation. It's a piece that doesn't make sense. That's what the world needs to see you.

Do righteousness real righteousness? Needs to eat the piece. It's connected cemented righteousness and peace bring us to a place where all of us want to be. Righteousness peace bring us to Joy. Look at this. Romans 15:13, May the god of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you'll overflow with hope by the power of Holy Spirit. I just sums up everything I've said and added. Hope into the mix. That is exactly what God wants for us righteousness. Peace and joy.

Trust ya will get to their trust only bills as with peace at filters with joy. Wicked World righteousness invites joy as well Proverbs 10:10 28 does the prospect of the righteous is Joy with the hopes of the wicked come come to nothing. All of these things are connected all of them are cemented together. All of them are the foundation for the pathway compute the ancient pathway that he wants us to be on one sister walk.

Happiness depends on what happens Joy is our strength. Why does this matter? I like the next one. Why does this matter is a slide? There's a monkey is hilarious. He's a gorilla. proverbs 17:22 a joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken Spirit dries up the bones.

Nehemiah comes back with the ex house to Jerusalem rebuild the walls to the defensible position in just 52 days. It happened probably in 4:44, BC. Just so you know, what world history 447 when we was when Athens laid the first stone in the Parthenon. They were just becoming what we would know his Classical Greece. What would it was people started to cry? Because you're overwhelmed they got to love them so much and oh my goodness. He brought us from captivity and and he rebuilt the walls and he's showing us his Blessing and work here again in the land that he promised our fathers.

Nehemiah comes and stops them and he says go and enjoy Choice food near my 810 go and enjoy Choice Foods and sweet drink and send some of those who have to have prepared. Nothing for this day is Holy to our God. We do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Wonder why were feeling so weak.

Have joy real joy, we need righteousness. We need peace. We need righteousness. Peace, and we need your eye. How do you get joy or part? We're told to believe in God will have joy 1st Peter 1:8 says no we have not seen him you love him. And do you see him now? Don't see him. Now you believe in him and you greatly Rejoice with a joy inexpressible and full of Glory.

Or told that we can have joy in his presence Psalm 16:11. You make known to me the path of life. You fill me with joy in your presence with eternal present pleasure in your right hand. How did we come into His presence Thanksgiving?

3 it's through listening and obeying the spoken word of God. Jesus said in John 15:11. I have told you this that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete you and I can hear God speak and when we obey what he tells us to do Joy comes that that joy that is they're connected to this is planting and reaping John. Jesus said in John 4:36. The Harvesters are paid a good wages in the fruit. They harvest is like people brought to eternal life what Joy awaits both the planter and the Harvester alike. Jesus is saying it doesn't matter if you just scatter seeds. It doesn't matter. If you get the Harvest those seeds and lead someone to get to the good news of Jesus. He says there's joy on both ends there. There's joy on both ends. That's a beating the what he's told us to do so we get joy from hearing and obeying what he told us to do as well. We are the six the NIV 1984 Edition cuz every other Edition screws this up it says Philemon 1:6. I pray you may be active in sharing your faith. So you'll have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ Jesus. I find most Christians don't have a clue of the good things we have in Christ because they aren't active in sharing their fee.

How you going to do that this week? How are you going to share your faith? I don't know. I don't know like honestly, I don't really see a lot of people other than my wife so, I don't know how I'm going to drive, but I know God's going to help me. I know he'll deal show me the way cuz I know it's as well for me.

Philemon 1:7 the very next Spurs. We recognize the loving others. Your love is giving me such joy and comfort my brother for you have your kindness is off and refresh the hearts of other people. When we see Good Works being done to other people. We we got joy in that we get encouragement from that power of testimony again, it is so critically important for us. 6th way that I found is we promote peace Proverbs 20 verse 12 verse 20 says the seat is in the heart of those who fought evil with those who promote peace have joy.

I hope you've noticed that none of these things that we can do. Burger Joy we can do on our own strength. They're our ability. We can't do any of those. We have a role in every single one of them. But oh, it's holy spirit that does the work. Good news is you can't save anyone but Jesus does and you just tell the good news sometimes you reach sometimes you harvest. We need to hear people's stories and you see the good work that's being done. You get joy and encouragement with the see how God's working in their life. Got to tell her stories people. Got to let people know.

Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It's not a checklist to say. Oh, yes. I'm this much more like Jesus. It's what Holy Spirit grows in you. The love and the joy of the Peace of the patients the kindness of the goodness in the faithfulness of the gentlest in the self-control. That's what he's making you into more and more and more like Jesus.

That's what we're told in Romans 12:12 to be. Joyful in Hope patient in Affliction and faithful in prayer. We do have a rule. Joyful in Hope patient patient in Affliction and faithful in prayer.

As some of you have already picked this up. Some of you've already started singing the song. Why do I see a righteousness peace and joy are the stones in the foundation of the pathway? That ancient pathway that God wants us to walk. It's because of the middle of Paul's discussion in the enrollments. He's talking about whether it's okay to eat meat that sacrifice to Idol or drink wine that's been given over to idols and he says in Romans 4:14 17 and 18 He says for the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating or drinking. but of righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by people.

The kingdom of God is righteousness. Peace and joy. Jesus announce the kingdom, but his kingdom is eternal. It happened from ancient times and it was moving forward. It's it's been part of this whole movement that God has had since the garden.

When we walk in righteousness peace and joy, we find the resting place for our soul.

The people of Judah GE said in Jeremiah 6:16 to 70 need this is what the Lord says stand by the way and see and ask for the ancient path where the good way is and walk in it and then you will find a resting place for your soul, but they said we will not walk in it. I have set a Watchman over you saying listen to the sound of the trumpet, but they said we will not listen.

You spoke through Isaiah and Isaiah 30 verse 15. I don't have this one off there. This is what the Sovereign Lord the Holy One of Israel says in Repentance and rest is your salvation. In quietness and trust is your strength. But you would have none of it.

you and I need to figure out how Holy Spirit wants to work righteousness. Peace and joy into the day-to-day of our everyday. We need to figure out how we can find rest for our souls. He will tell us how to do it. He will show us how to do it, but we need to pursue it.

Do you have a Sabbath day a day that's devoted to God? A day that you that you don't worry about all the other things but it's just you you spend that time with God and with others and however, you want to celebrate the Sabbath like it's a damn to him.

Not a day to get all those chores done. You can do during the week.

Not a day to figure out all the problems that you can figure out this week.

In Repentance and salvation is your salvation in quietness and trust is your strength.

We don't have that. Can you search for that one? That one's Isaiah 30 verse 15?

God wants us to be lights in the Darkness.

But it can't be. Add bright neon sign flashing some Personal Agenda that we have. It's got to be that clear bright that the bright light that draws people to him. It's got a view righteousness. That does not condemn others, but brings. Peace. It's got to be peace that leads to Joy. It's got to be done where we we we value.

What God values?

Is there things to complain about? Oh, yeah, is it our place to complain? I'm sorry. I don't see that in the book.

We're told to pray. We're told to give our problems to him and get his peace.

We're told to be different in this world. And it's a difference that is going to be so attractive to so many people and there's going to be people that hate us because of it.

We don't worry about the ones we don't worry about the haters.

God knows and he'll get them eventually.

And some of the best stories will come from the people that hate because mad when a guy gets a hold of them things change.

but you and I We we need to be following that agent that we need to say. Yes God. I want righteousness and peace and joy. I want rest for my soul. I want rest. It doesn't say that. I'm shirking my responsibilities. It doesn't say that that I'm not doing what you're telling me to do, but rest is rest is rest. You know, sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is be in his presence during the day.

I didn't even hit this at all. I meant to in his presence is fullness of joy.

When we're in his presence.

Anyway, I do have.

It's not your work. It's what Jesus is done. Kingdom of God is righteousness and peace and joy righteousness. Remember we do right because we've been made righteous. Peace were given peace as we trust in him. And how do we show our trust is? We worry about nothing. We pray about everything with Thanksgiving.

Joy how do we get joy we can do lots of things to have joy, but really it's in his presence and practicing his presence. So what's in those times when we are acutely aware of who God is that we have joy and in the day-to-day of everyday we can realize God is already there.

and I'll tell you the difference it makes The difference is when that guy cut you off in traffic and you're ready to just rip him a new one. Your mind is not there anymore. You're not thinking that way you're thinking about how terrible something picked him off and I got to pray for peace for him because he shouldn't be driving that way and he needs protection when he's driving like that. It's a world of difference. It's a world of difference when it when it's I've got to defend my rights and and I got or I got a god whose defense my rights and I can trust them for that.

It's a world of difference.

And by the way and see and ask for the ancient path where the good way is and walk in it and then you will find a resting place for your souls. Will you stand with me, please?

Thank you. God that your kingdom is a kingdom of righteousness and peace and joy.

I pray for those that don't have raster peace right now. I've Speak peace to the storms in their life.

And I say peace be still.

I speak to those who be facing problems this week and it won't know what to do. And then you feel anxiousness rise up. I pray Lord God that at that time they would know you are there and you are speaking peace and joy and righteousness to them Lord God.

I speak to those who who want things to be right and in want righteousness to rain. And I pray for creative ways for them to see how righteous need can lead to peace in that situation.

And Lord God right now. I pray.
