How does a person become a Christian?

Intro

Have you ever wondered, “How does a person become a Christian?”

What happens in someone’s life for them to go from not being a Christian to being a Christian?

Last week we talked about what a Christian is

Someone who has placed their faith and hope in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins

But what does that actually look like?

Is there a test you have to take?

Do I have to apply with a church to become a Christian

Is there a certain ritual, or prayer, or something that I have to participate in

The process of becoming a Christian is actually really simple, but it is packed with a lot of meaning, so I want to walk us through how someone becomes a Christian

For those of you who are Christians, my hope is to help you be able to communicate to others

Believe

The first thing a person must do is believe that Jesus is the Lord and savior of their life

Lord- He’s the ruler, the king, the one in charge, we obey him

Savior- He is the one who saves us from the punishment we deserve for our sins

Repent

Next a person has to repent of their sins

Repent- Means to turn around

Confess

Third, a person has to confess out loud to someone what they believe

Christians are meant to live in a community (Church)

If you are scared to say what you believe, do you really believe it?

Be baptized

As a symbol of participating in the death and resurrection of Jesus

It is a symbol of being reborn, being given new life

Live in obedience

Out of thankfulness for what God has done for us, and a desire for people to know the love of God we live the way God instructs us to

All of this happens because when you put your faith in Christ you receive the Holy Spirit

What is the Holy Spirit?

Third part of the Trinity

God gives his spirit to guide us and change our lives

We no desire sinful things

We can still be tempted and fall and sin, but we acknowledge that when we sin we need forgiveness
