HOOK

DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s the 6th day of January— Wednesday
Yesterday right here at “The Message” we completed chapter 18 of the book of Acts— Priscilla and Aquila sailed with Paul— on the way back to Jerusalem and Antioch, they passed by at Ephesus where Priscilla and Aquila stayed behind while Paul sailed back to Caesarea— the name Apollos appeared for the first time in this part of the book of Acts— he was an evangelist during the early church and knew only about the John’s baptism or the water baptism— but then he was bold in preaching about Jesus— Priscilla and Aquila invited Apollos to their house where they taught him the way of God more adequately— from this we learned:
I DON’T HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE BIBLE TO PREACH ABOUT JESUS
WE HAVE TO COACH ONE ANOTHER TO GROW IN OUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GOD
Today we will begin with chapter 19— the first section which was about the return of Paul to Ephesus is quite long— so we will just cover verses 1 to 10 today— open your Bible to Acts 19:1-10
When studying the Bible, look for words that defines the CHARACTER of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit— keep an eye on COMMANDS to obey— good EXAMPLES to follow, and bad examples to avoid— PROMISES that you could claim— sins to CONFESS— CHALLENGES you encountered— and ENCOURAGEMENT to keep you going
READ ACTS 19:1-10

BOOK

Acts 19:1–10 NIV
1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. 4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all. 8 Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9 But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10 This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.
WHAT: The return of Paul to Ephesus
WHERE: from Galatia and Phrygia— Paul took the interior roads back to Ephesus
WHEN: Third missionary journey [52-57 AD]
WHO: Paul, disciples— the name Tyrannus was mentioned [a teacher in Ephesus]
WHY: Preach about the Lord and to teach them about baptisms

LOOK

DID YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN YOU BELIEVED?
They said no, they even said that they have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit— Paul then asked what kind of baptism they received— John’s baptism they replied
Paul clarified to them that John’s baptism was baptism of repentance— clearly, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate act of grace where the disciples receives power and done by the laying of hands— look!
WHEN PAUL PLACED HIS HANDS ON THEM, THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME ON THEM
They received power— they begun to spoke in tongues and prophesied— Peter and John did the same thing with the believers in Samaria— Acts 8:14-17
BUT SOME OF THEM BECAME OBSTINATE; REFUSED TO BELIEVE AND PUBLICLY MALIGNED THE WAY
The way is an ancient that refers to Christianity— obstinate, in other words “stubborn”— so Paul left them— he took the disciples with him and lectured everyday at a hall named after Tyrannus— this went on for two years— so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord

TOOK
