I. The Promise (35-36)

A. Let us go across to the other side (35)

- Miracles he had performed in chapters 1, 2, 3
- Chapter 4 teaching by the sea
- They knew he could heal
- He knew the storm was coming
- Why does he want to go forward? Get away & rest? Expand ministry area

B. Promises he has made to us

- Hebrews 13:5b – he won’t leave us or forsake us
- Romans 8:28—he has a purpose for all this

II. The storm (37)

A. Jesus in the boat with them (36)

B. The boat was filling with water (37)

C. He was asleep in the back (38)

D. The disciples are afraid—avid fisherman on same lake – used to the storms

E. Reminds us of Jonah

F. Chippie

G. What storm are you facing now—

pandemic, Covid 19, loss of job, reduced wages, loss of family members, coming presidential administration and all the changes it brings

III. The reaction

A. Disciples gripped with fear

B. They are trying to keep the boat afloat

C. (36) other boats were with them—watching their reaction to the storm

D. See Jesus asleep and believe he is content to let them die (38b)

E. How are you responding to your storm? Is fear overrunning you, or is it anger or defeat – others are watching you

IV. The result

A. They called on Jesus (38)

B. Not eloquent but a plea for help

C. Jesus responded and calmed the sea (39)

D. He rebukes their faith (40)

E. Have you appealed to God about your storm, Covid 19, political crisis we are facing?
