James 5:16–18 NKJV
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Effective: energeo
to function v. — to do what something is used for; perform as expected when operating.
Prayer: deesis
divine entreaty n. — an earnest or urgent request (to God).
Matthew 16:15–19 NKJV
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
The most important component of praying with authority is: boldness.
Boldness requires confidence. Understanding it’s not your own authority you’re praying from, but Jesus’s, means it’d actually be wrong to pray half-heartedly, timidly, or with doubt!!
Matthew 26:38–39 NKJV
38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
This was an act of humility, not doubt or fear.
How do we know if a prayer is in God’s Will or not? IT’S IN HIS WORD!!!
James 4:1–4 NKJV
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
God would be evil to answer a prayer of the flesh.
To pray with authority:
be surrendered
back it up with scripture
stop making it about you
to think you’re unworthy is making it about you
BE BOLD!!!
