When Israel thought about the coming Messiah, most people didn’t put the word servant together with that idea. Most of the time, they wanted a powerful ruler, a king who would help them throw off the Romans. To them, servant is a lowly position…someone who is beaten, or even killed, but rather someone who can give us victory.
