The goal of a teacher is to make disciples not robots

The Biblical model of a teacher is one who lives life with his students

Moses with the children of Israel
David with Solomon
Elijah with Elisha
Jesus with his 12 disciples
Paul with Timothy and Titus
Priscilla and Aquila with Apollo

He ought to teach his students how to live well not how to regurgitate facts

“Therefore, go and make [students] of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age.” -- Matthew 28:19-20

A teacher must first be a learner

When teachers stop learning, they stop instructing

They begin regurgitating
They become proud

Resources for learners

A
B
C

A teacher must be humble

Good disciples won't follow arrogant teachers

They think they know everything
They think they know enough

Good disciples won't follow a dishonest teacher

Teachers who imply they know everything are dishonest with their students
Teachers who think they know enough are dishonest with themselves

Teachers must know what they don't know

Teachers must be prepared to learn from their students as well as teach them.

A teacher must be well fed

You cannot run a marathon without food water and training

Teaching scripture is not a one day a week job, even if all you teach is a Sunday School class

Teaching scripture well requires study and research
It takes thought and preparation
It takes willpower and perseverance

Teaching can be draining

It takes effort
Your students are watching and listening to you

You will not succeed if you don’t spend time with God

The spiritual disciplines can be helpful

A teacher must be in it for the long haul

So many students are used to teachers who are unreliable

This breaks down trust

If you mean to take on the responsibility of teaching scripture

Be willing to do the work to teach well
Be willing to stay as long as you are needed

Pray earnestly before making a decision

Follow the Lord however he leads.
