Read Esther 2:19-23

There’s a little song we used to sing as children - do you remember it...
“Oh be careful little eyes what you see,
Oh be careful little eyes what you see,
For the Father up above
Is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see.”
And then it would move through your Ear’s, feet, hands, etc
It was to reinforce the fact that there is a God in the heaven’s who is watching and keeping record of everything you see, hear, say, do, everywhere you go.
Sometimes as adults we need this message too.
We need to remember that God is keeping an exact and accurate account of our life.
And while that should cause us to pause and think about all we say, see, hear, do, and go
It should also give us great joy and Praise to God
There is an interesting verse found in the last book of the Old Testament that I think says what I mean:
Malachi 3:16 KJV 1900
16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: And the Lord hearkened, and heard it, And a book of remembrance was written before him For them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.
God has a book of remembrance and in it he recorded every time they even thought upon His name!!!
I think someone must have reminded Mordecai of this great truth.
I read to you what happened:
For whatever reason two of the King’s closest servants named Bigthan and Teresh his personal door keepers or guards to his personal quarters became unhappy with their employment.
And they conspired to do the King in.
According to the Jewish tradition Mordecai could understand 70 different languages - which if true could be how he came by this information.
Mordecai after learning of the terrible plan - told Esther who was the queen by this time - who told the King giving Mordecai the credit.
A couple of lessons I want to draw from this:
Always do the right thing - Not only is God taking note - but other people are too
What Mordecai did was written down forever in the King’s Chronicles.
While I may never do anything that will be found in a presidential library - I know that God is keeping a record I want to do the right thing.
Remember God’s Payday doesn’t always come on Friday - but it comes
You sometimes wonder- why didn’t someone remind the King of Mordecai’s brave and courageous deed?
It would have probably not been taken well had they tried, a King doesn’t like to be told he’s wrong - but still no one did. In fact the king promptly forgot the whole situation
I would think if I knew someone tried to kill me - I wouldn’t forget it so easily.
It is also interesting that Persian kings were known for elaborately rewarding those who did great things in their kingdom -it is interesting how Mordecai’s reward was simply forgotten.
Things don’t always happen because of cause and effect:
I believe in the law of Cause and Effect - but I also believe that above that law stands the Law Maker - and that God has a way of interweaving himself into daily and personal events.
I believe God had a hand in the king forgetting to immediately forget the reward until
I believe that God kept anyone from reminding the king about it until
I believe God had a hand in keeping Ahasuerus awake that night and causing them to read in that exact spot
I also believe that God is working in our lives in that way as well.
No not everything happens that way - but there are times when God is actively and personally involved in the things that happen to us.
Matthew Henry put it this way, “No step is taken towards Haman’s design of the Jews’ destruction, but several steps are taken towards God’s design of their deliverance, and this for one.”
That is another thing I want us to remember - God isn’t playing catch-up- God is hundred of moves ahead of everyone else - He is in control and when we don’t receive the reward we think we ought - we just bide our time - God’s payday comes
Yes we want to be careful of what we see, what we say, what we hear, where we go what we do -
But we also need to remember that God is taking note of everything -
The Persian King took a note and promptly forgot
God took a record and said I’m gonna need that in a little while and had it ready at just the right time!!!
