Well, 2020 has passed and 2021 is now hear. During any normal “new year” there would be a flood of “resolutions” being made by a lot of people. However, I think if 2020 has taught us anything it is that the typical resolutions are not as important as we might have once thought. In fact because of all the cause of last year many have begun looking to their spiritual lives and our Creator and it is with that in mind I thought it would be good if we examined a few important biblical things we should be “resolved” to do in this coming year. Number one should be to have a closer relationship with our God. This is done, mainly, two ways. First, by learning more about our God through his word. To do this we must study diligently so our faith or trust and confidence in God can increase. Romans 10.17 says…
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
With a great faith i.e. trust and confidence in God through his word, we have the right encouragement to go out and be the disciples of Christ we should be. Notice what Paul wrote Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15.
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Second thing we must do to have a closer relationship with God is to pray. Listen, prayer isn’t for God as he knows not only what we are going to say but what we need said and even what we don’t know what to say (Psalm 94:11; Romans 8:26). However, we need to pray because communication with God is vital in our relationship with him. We can’t really trust God if we don’t actually open up and talk i.e. pray to him about everything. Remember what Paul told the church in Thessalonica in 1 Thessalonians 5:17
1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
17 pray without ceasing,
As this new year continues, Lord willing, let us be resolved to draw closer to God through his word and through a deeper communication with him.
